    Bolt on Tire Carrier?

Long story short: I've got a set of 4 oem aluminum 18's off a NBS silverado on my suburban but one of them cracked open this week. Found another set of the same 4 wheels for decent on facebook so I have 7+1 of the same wheels now. I'd like to put one in place of the standard spare tire...

Fixing a Rust Hole, how dumb am I?

Looks good! Mines actualy close to that straight as well (Just dirty now), it was originally a Montana vehicle and I bought it when I lived in Western Nodak: also zero salt. Just lots of rock chips because nothings paved out there. Only took 1 snowstorm after I moved to Wisconsin for it all to...

Fixing a Rust Hole, how dumb am I?

Ill also be running over all of the chassis parts with a wire wheel, rustoleum rust reformer, and a coat of low gloss implement enamel. If all goes well I'll hit the underbody and any crevices with fluid film and put some clearbra over the silver when it's all painted up.

Fixing a Rust Hole, how dumb am I?

But a skim coat of glazing putty, a day to dry, and a coat of filler primer took a most of it out. I can live with it. I'm basically gonna be respraying all of the silver parts as I found surface rust all underneath the rockers and doors, so it'll stay primer for a couple weeks. Not going to...

Little more noticeable with some self etch on it.

Fixing a Rust Hole, how dumb am I?

This was my biggest goof. Leaned into it a little much with the flapper wheel.

Cut it off as flush as I dare with the angle grinder and a cutoff wheel.

Bzzt. I think my heat was a little low.

Fixing a Rust Hole, how dumb am I?

Found an old bolt that was the perfect size. Threads even bit a little, held itself in place. Cleaned the threads with a wire wheel and threaded it in a turn past the thickness of the metal.

    Sanding the temporary primer off.

Pressure washed a crapload of dirt out through that hole I drilled.

Fixing a Rust Hole, how dumb am I?

So I did some fixing over the weekend and into tonight, thanks for all the advice everyone. It turned out acceptable I think, the only parts lacking are due to my poor welding skills and cheapo welder. Just gonna keep adding to this thread as a personal record so I can come back to it. Decided...

Fixing a Rust Hole, how dumb am I?

Thats just mud. There was a light dirt all over and I just sprayed that one area with mineral spirits and let it drip. I'm probably going to follow your advice on spraying some fluid film or wax up in there from underneath when the repair is finished.

Fixing a Rust Hole, how dumb am I?

That's actually really helpful, I had no idea there were drain holes to look for. I'm going to fish around and look for it as soon as I get home - if I can get that area cleaned out maybe I can launch some rust converter up into it and that'd be good enough for me to sleep soundly. Mines...

Fixing a Rust Hole, how dumb am I?

Alright, so I've got the ol burb parked in the garage waiting for a free weekend to do the front ball joints - and I decided to take a look at a little brown spot I had by the fender. Started standing and sure enough it's a little rust spot that's gone all the way though. I scraped out...

Lpoking for some help with a paint screwup...

I didn't even notice in the picture, but that 4 corner marker light mod looks interesting. Is there a write up you used or did you figure that out yourself?

Lpoking for some help with a paint screwup...

Your truck sure looks clean. For some reason there's hardly any 400s in my area. I helped run a car show this summer at a local club, probably got 120-130 cars, including about 20 trucks and only 1 400. A late 90s sierra that was ratted out. Frame work and suspension was nicely done, but a rat...

Lpoking for some help with a paint screwup...

Yeah I'd lie to get a spray gun setup. But like I mentioned, this was intended to be a good temporary fix to keep the rust at bay for a few years. Besides the rust - the clear on the tailgate is going and the overall paint on the body is uneven, swirled, scratched, and dented to hell as well as...

Lpoking for some help with a paint screwup...

Thanks all for the replies. I'm obviously going to have to strip it down again and repaint again... but the question I have now is what is the point of rust killer primer vs regular primer? I thought that was going to be my saving grace keeping me from grinding all the paint off. Figured if I...

Lpoking for some help with a paint screwup...

Can't imagine rock chips are causing my problem. Since moving I don't see dirt roads, basically ever. The parts I haven't tried repairing yet are full of rock chips but barely any rust. I'm leaning towards missing some rust like you mentioned because it looks like rust under clearcoat basically...

Lpoking for some help with a paint screwup...

Having trouble adding pictures so hopefully this works. I apparently screwed something up when trying to prevent some rust on my burb. I've had the vehicle since 2011, in no salt states until I moved to the rust belt in 2017. This summer I noticed some cancer starting, passenger side front...

    stuff that catches my eye

Not sure where this fits in, either on the forums or in the universe in general... but I thought ya'll might enjoy it. Some sort of frankenstion 6x6 with a dump bed and a plow (among other sketchy modifications). Saw it at my local golf course and had to take a picture.
