tq converter bad?

I haven't been on here long but I can see I already like honkon. Yes most don't look at why it happens....just fix the now problem. Ok...lets loo at the problems, MAJOR one 3-4 clutches burn... fix...for the early models go with the steel bonded 3-4 piston, drill the 3rd and 4th plate holes...

4l60e transmission question

retorq , You are correct in the 95 having a year specific valve body plate but the rebuild kit separator gasket set accommodates for that as I have said in my previous comment abougt them going to 01, thank you for your input but to much information on a subject that only requires minimal input...

answer to any 4l60e trouble

I haven't read every post in here but putting in a few things . NEVER EVER USE A MONSTER SUNSHELL. I have built many 700r4 and 4l60e transmissions and the only ones that have came back with broken sunshells are the monster ones, even a 2wd tahoe backing out of a driveway broke a monster. Just...

Non shifting 4l60e

No problem buddy and I definitely know how you feel. I come home from working Memphis fire with about 3 hours of sleep and try to do stuff in the shop...after a few mistakes I say screw it and go get some rest with a fresh head. Iv'e had people call me with what they thought would be a rebuild...

Non shifting 4l60e

If you put it in gear and there is no movement in any gear including reverse then you either have zero fluid or your pump is gone. Even with no electronics ( power ) you will have 3rd and reverse, called limp mode. easiest ways to check the pump if you have confiremed you have fluid is 1. the...

tq converter bad?

Really sounds like the 3-4 clutches are gone, not the converter, other gears working fine means it's not the converter. Could get a .500 boost valve but I'm guessing your transmission already had one installed. As far as monster transmissions...I had a guy bring me one to rebuild and after...

4l60e transmission question

Good catch honkon, it's the spring that goes on top of the overrun piston, the old piston has nipples for the open ended spring cage to go on and the new bonded piston doesn't.

The 4l60e has a couple of different plate gaskets. If the kit was for a 98 you're good. The change was in 2001 again changed in around 06 but not exaclty sure on the date. Most kits come with 2 sets of gaskets, use the ones without the white or yellow line or the ones that have 1 letter ( C for...

answer to any 4l60e trouble

Years close to yours had problems with the ignition switch, power goes through the switch then to the transmission. Drive it and wiggle the key switch and see if it will shift. If it does then replace the switch, of coarse it could be so worn that it won't supply power, then look at the fuses...
