    88-98 Service Manuals

Just wanted to say thank you again for uploading these. Not working on a Chevy but I've come back to look at the 1998 c/k service manual. It has a great section on vibration diagnosis which is applicable to my Infiniti Q45.

    The Member Truck Thread

The throaty sound is from the intake which was totally 100% stock besides removing the resonator box and putting a cap over the hole in the plenum. Exhaust was 100% stock at the time of that vid as well. It sounded even better after I welded pipes in place of the old clogged up cats. Man, I...

    Fan Clutch help

What happened to the old clutch? Sent it in as a core? It's kind of warm in knoxville right now, but I think you should definitely be good once this cold front hits. As long as you have the water pump belt on, coolant full. Just keep the truck moving and keep an eye on the temp.

    88-98 Service Manuals

A while ago on the piratebay there was a GM service software bootleg, with full comprehensive '97 service manuals. Torrented it. Shouldn't have deleted it off my PC when I sold my truck.

Deleting cat=loss of low end torque?

Should just leave the cats until they cause drivability issues. I had a Yukon which was mysteriously down on power until I had the cats removed. They clogged because it was an oil burner.

1995 GMC Suburban k1500 chassis grounds turned to dust

Yes start by inspecting and testing all grounds, they're known to be problematic on these trucks. Do you know how to load test a ground? A headlight bulb serves as a great test light for this.

    Chasing P0302

Did you check the torque on all of the manifold bolts? You need to diagnose this problem before you tear into the engine, possibly creating new problems. This will leave you chasing your tail indefinitely.

    Chasing P0302

Add leaking fuel injector to the list of possible contaminants. Have you put a scanner on it? Did you monitor compression leakdown? Maybe try fuel pressure leakdown test also. Check fuel trims with engine running. What's the plug smell like? Oil? Fuel? You should replace it as it is fouled.

Unidentified Tranny Seal - quick question

Looks like output shaft seal. Or possibly front seal, hard to tell from pictures. Has the transmission been rebuilt already? I doubt he would skip a seal like that, many rebuild kits come with multiple variations also, leaving leftover parts.

    Truck runs like crap.

What year is this truck? Looks like a TBI v8. Do you have any engine codes? Exhaust leaks can confuse the o2 sensors and cause problems like this.

    Limited Slip/Posi Conversion

The G80 is pleasant off-road as it locks up easy with little wheel spin allowing you to reliably creep along. Works good on dry pavement too but sometimes feels unrefined. Doesn't work worth a Damn once it gets worn out however...

    Limited Slip/Posi Conversion

OP it depends on what you want to do with the truck. In my experience clutched limited slip differentials have better on-road behavior especially in high friction sitations. However mechanically locking differentials, such as the automatic G80 locker are better off-road in slippery terrain IMO...

    Limited Slip/Posi Conversion

What do you think of the gov-lock itself? I had one in my Yukon with correct lube and it only worked when it felt like it, never when I really needed it, and I was always scared it was going to explode. Is that mainly an 8.5" thing? Are you aware if the 2018 Silverado LT featured the g80 govlock...

Any secrets for a bumping MPG on 1998 305?

So HLC was a GM factory strategy, and the difference between stock and modded is entirely in the ecu programming, besides EGR delete? That sounds better than what I had in mind...

So exactly what type of ECU does this engine have? You said Holley fuel injection? Does the OBD connector under the dash have power and communication with ECU?

Any secrets for a bumping MPG on 1998 305?

sell it and buy a corolla for daily I dunno anything about this "highway lean" mod but the name alone sounds like a recipe for engine detonation, also makes me think of the problematic chrysler "lean burn" strategy from the 70s.

Need help reading these numbers / rough idle

OP can you monitor the upstream o2 sensors at 3000rpm? That spark plug looks wet, with gas? Did you count how many plugs were wet on bank 2? At this point i would think you have a leak on that bank of the fuel system. Injector plumbing/control failure possibly, not personally familiar with the...

Need help reading these numbers / rough idle

Did you do MPFI upgrade or do you still have factory poppet injectors? Have you inspected for fowled spark plugs? That data gives good insight. You have nearly 9% fuel trim on bank 2 at 3000rpm, which is acceptable. How does it run if you step on the gas with the truck in gear? That leads me...

Need help reading these numbers / rough idle

I'm not sure you can trust the pcm's misfire counter if it is also setting a code for cam/crank correlation. First step is to figure out exactly which cylinder is misfiring and why. Unplug cylinder 2 spark plug wire while the engine is running and see if there is any change. The fuel trims...

    O2 sensor trouble

What did you use to test the wires? Have you monitored live data with an obd scanner? You could have a pin fitment issue. Do a very thorough visual inspection of the o2 connector. Also I'm still not clear on why you want to entirely redo the wiring in the truck?

Best way to keep this used Yukon running like new

Best advice in this thread. The maintenance schedule in your owners manual is essentially a "maintenance for dummies." You can't go wrong with that. Keep fresh fluids and filters in the truck and it will serve you well. Pay attention to you dash lights and gauges. I wouldn't ever dig that far...
