    Vortec 454 Fan Upgrade

I installed the 11 blade S-10 fan and it's smaller than the fan shroud opening by about 1.5in radially. I'll be pulling it back off and going back to the 9 blade aluminum stock fan. If I still have AC cooling issues at idle I'll look into getting a bigger plastic fan in the future. If...

    Roof Rack Seals

Watching as I'm chasing a water leak in my Suburban's roof and I'm suspicious of my rack seals.

    Vortec 454 Fan Upgrade

11 blade fan ordered and went with a Four Seasons clutch since RockAuto shipped it from the same warehouse and the Hayden was the only thing on the 12 item order from other warehouse so here it goes. It's cooling off again so I'd really like it to not hit temps where it gets tested and I'm...

Vortec 454 Radiator side Oil Cooler O-rings

No, lines are OEM but the oil was pooling under the radiator directly vs. dripping off of the lines so I’m pretty convinced its the O-rings.

Vortec 454 Radiator side Oil Cooler O-rings

1998 Chevy Suburban K2500 with the 454 (as in my signature) and it’s the screw in fittings, not the clip type. I’m also not getting new lines. I kept my old ones when I pulled it off for lack of sealing O-rings.

Vortec 454 Radiator side Oil Cooler O-rings

Mine had O-rings when I first found the leak years ago and despite trying multiple different O-rings from various kits I never found one that didn’t get shredded. Maybe I’ve been chasing someone else’s ”bubba” but I think I see references to them being there on both the SBC and BBC versions.

    Vortec 454 Fan Upgrade

Howdy, I have to put a new fan clutch (Probably Hayden Severe Duty) on my 98 454 as the AC isn’t up to cooling the truck at idle even with the whole heater core bypassed. With the fan coming out anyway, is there an upgrade for the blades? I have the black aluminum bladed version (verified...

Vortec 454 Radiator side Oil Cooler O-rings

Howdy, After much digging I can’t find any information on replacement O rings for the oil cooler. It’s much hotter here in TX than when I lived in CA (I’m from TX so this isn’t a surprise) so I think it’s worth getting it back in action by pulling the plugs on the pan rail and reinstalling the...

HVAC Actuators: Do Them All Proactively

Howdy, Been troubleshooting my AC and narrowed it down to a failed heater valve and blend door so the heater would run at the same time as the AC making for all sorts of conflicting data. While I was in there cleaning the evaporator core I found the recirc door doesn't fully close so that's...

    Replacement Bench Seat Floor Mats

Yes, very odd they don't have the front mats to match.

    Replacement Bench Seat Floor Mats

Howdy, Since I have a 9pax Suburban with the 60/40 front bench I'm looking for replacement floor mats that include the section that goes up over the transmission hump as grippy studs are gone from my original. I'd prefer the 60/40 split like OEM but single piece wouldn't be the end of the...

    Power Lock Short

Also probed the main cigarette lighter (not the power ports that are on the accessory circuit) and it's also a in continuity (diode mode on the multimeter is what I mean by continuity).

    Power Lock Short

There's not a lighter in the ashtray on my '98 though I did check and obviously I've not done this before as there was a ciggi butt in the ashtray and some ash in the lighter. I also pulled the passengers door switch and the kick panel to get at the door harness. Short is not in the door and...

    Power Lock Short

I'll check that but no I don't keep anything in the ashtray.

    Power Lock Short

Howdy, Chasing a problem with my power locks where they will blow the fuse instantly and intermittently trip a 30A thermal breaker. Keyless entry still works though not super reliably. I've pulled the door and kick panel off and have isolated the short to the body side of the power lock...

    4wd Hub Replacement

Used the same wheel bearing grease on the seal, splines and the face of the CV Axle where it interfaces with the hub. I think I can hear some rubbing or similar at and near full lock, I'll take a look to see if there are any witness marks.

    4wd Hub Replacement

Doing this on my K2500 Suburban and wondering what y'all used to grease the wheel seal (CV shaft to the back of the hub seal)? I'm thinking the same Lucas Red-n-Tacky I'm doing the rest of the joints with. Definitely using the same grease on all the joints as Schurkey has posted about but...

CV Shaft Removal, Already pulled the knuckle

I put the knuckle back on with the nuts just barely on the ball joints and tie rods so I could jam up the rotor and pull the CV shafts off... Then dropped the diff since the driver's side won't come out even with the shafts off. Guess I'm doing the oil pan since it's practically zero more work...

CV Shaft Removal, Already pulled the knuckle

I guess I should mention that fixing the Suburban had a higher priority than getting the air compressor plumbed so I don't have my impact gun online and am not buying an electric. I was considering dropping the diff anyway to change the oil pan gasket before my wife's car started acting up so...

CV Shaft Removal, Already pulled the knuckle

Howdy, I'm pulling the whole front end apart to replace all the bushings and ball joints and I forgot to loosen the CV shaft bolts to the diff before pulling the knuckle out on the passengers side. I could put the hub back on the drivers side to use the jam the brake rotor technique but how do...

New Injectors and Distributor, Now Random Misfires

So it sucked the second O-ring off of the end of the injector on the way home last week and I took it to a shop and had them call 5-0 Motorsports. To 5-0's credit, they are super helpful after you're in the frying pan but don't give you the instructions to try to keep you out of it. They seem...

98 Suburban K2500 454: Magnaflow Direct Fit Front Cat Pipe Hits Driveshaft

It's going back. For the refund amount I can get both cats and a new set of flanges for the joint and rebuild the existing pipe. A piece of 409 stainless to fix Magnaflow's pipe was another $100 so pass.

98 Suburban K2500 454: Magnaflow Direct Fit Front Cat Pipe Hits Driveshaft

This is warped, the pipe just behind the flange is dented and you can see daylight even after attacking the flange with a wirewheel and razor blade. I did grind/file it flat enough in the past to get it to seal with double gaskets but it's warped again with use. I'll dig through the pile of...

98 Suburban K2500 454: Magnaflow Direct Fit Front Cat Pipe Hits Driveshaft

Ironically the original cat pipe has a warped flange so the balance of the leaking flange and the bad cat work out to no CEL. It does not run nearly as smooth with the leak though. Need to get it fixed now we're here.
