    open loop when at idle

If I remember correctly the OEM is 195 degrees, idle speed is 750 in park, ambient temp has been 50 degrees F and lower. I am using a one number hotter than stock autolite plug with a stock gap. I do not know the exact number of the plug I will have to pull one out to check. My driving is mostly...

    open loop when at idle

Hi, my truck had the MAP sensor mounted to the air cleaner base which made removing the base a total pain in the neck. I had fabbed a bracket and relocated it a few years ago I did not notice any change when this was modified.

    open loop when at idle

Thanks for the responce, I had installed a heated unit and the truck didn't care. I recently replaced the heated sensor with a OEM single wire sensor and the truck doesn't care either way.

    open loop when at idle

Hello, my 1988 K3500 with a 7.4 and a th400 trans smells rich at idle and the plugs are black and sooty. My super old NAPA mind reader scan tool says that it goes to open loop whenever I let the truck idle. It doesn't care what the engine temp is it always goes into open loop, is this normal...

88 Chevy K 1500 Scottsdale Oil Pan Removal

It is hard to make a guess what the plastic debris in your oil pan is without seeing what it looks like. Through past experience with the 1960-1980 Gm Chevy engines, both small blocks and Big blocks all had these nylon coated camshaft drive gears. They are prone failure with large and small...

88 Chevy K 1500 Scottsdale Oil Pan Removal

The plastic pieces are probably pieces from the nylon coated camshaft timing gear. They are prone to failure, if you already have the oil pan off I would check the timing gear set. I have only seen ONE of these nylon coated gears that was intact and it was cracked in many places just waiting to...

As the norm with forum threads, they tend to get off topic. I am going to get into the toolbox rather then this keyboard. So have a enjoyable day...…

    454 vs 6.0

We are apparently generations apart, I grew up with carbs and still use them as daily drivers. I saw the advantage of having a O2 sensor to monitor the engine about 25 or 30 years ago, so I installed one on my daily driver as well as my toys. You would be amazed as to how well a carb can be...

    454 vs 6.0

I would swap in the 454 with out a doubt, a person cannot argue the fact that modern engines have awesome fuel mileage numbers and torque, but they also require complex systems to a achieve this. All said and done these systems are stepford wives waiting to ruin your life and your wallet. A...

Tbi 454 mpg...Is this as good as it gets?

Hi, the MPG that you are getting is pretty much what to expect with this vehicle. My 88 K3500 with a 454 th400 and 4:10 gears is quite similar even after a intake manifold change, complete exhaust rework (long tube headers, true 2.5 dual exhaust all the way out the back) and a chip. This beast...

    Long tubes? Or short?

I installed coated Hedman long tubes from Summit on my 88, and they fit perfectly. Only required that the starter, oil filter and plugs be removed to install. The downside to these headers is that the were rather pricey. 450 bones and took about a month to get them, apparently they don't keep...

    88 3500 4x4 7.4 10k miles WIW?

I bought a very similar truck recently with 140k miles, a great western rust free truck, but it demands to be FILLED UP on a regular basis. Even after doing all of the normal changes to get better mileage and a little performance it still only gets 10MPG. The 4.10 gears without a overdrive...

This vehicle has been designed for principal use at high altitude.

Hello, my 1988 K3500 with the 7.4,TH400 and 4.10 gears has a high altitude emission sticker on it. It was originaly sold from a dealership in Wyoming, I purchased the truck last year and brought it to the Midwest area which is much lower in elevation. The truck ran OK but acted lean on cold...
