LS Swap Parts: What to get, and what to avoid.

+1 for dirty dingo mounts. Mounted up perfectly to my 97 4l60e with the crankshaft spacer I can also agree with skylark that the best way for the temperature sender is to turn down the gmt400 sender to M12x1.5 threads and put in in the passenger side head. +1 for LexTech's AC relocation bracket...

97 Chevy k1500 rear end clunk

On mine I have a clunk and it's slop in the pinion gear after 227k. If it's not your U-Joints It could be that.

What basic setup do LS engines like? True dual or 2-into-1?

That's a good question. I would like to know the answer too. And yes I'd be interested in hearing a sound clip. I've been looking at these DIDO mufflers. They claim to have an internal X-Pipe. I'm sure not all DIDO mufflers do but these two do...

What basic setup do LS engines like? True dual or 2-into-1?

Do you think you could point me at a tubing kit like the one you used? I really like the way your system looks and if I could avoid buying a bigger kit with more bends than I need that would be fantastic. Is your truck 2wd or 4wd? What headers are those?

    Better, newer ABS swap?

411 PCM (or LS) swap since it was in some gmt800s? it could probably run most ABS systems from early 2000s. Although I don't think the 411 swap is possible on a TBI.

    Brakes keep sticking

That sounds like a good idea for your problem. Mine always seems to release just by turning the truck off and or coming to a full stop from speed. Not sure which does it since stopping is necessary before I turn it off.

    Brakes keep sticking

I just slapped my new out of the box calipers on. They had some grease on the slide pins out of the box so I thought that was good enough. Maybe I was wrong. Yeah a new one from Rock Auto is nearly $500. Uggh.

    Brakes keep sticking

That's what I'm hoping it's not. I don't know if the extra pressure that the hydroboost can generate caused the ABS module which might have been on the verge of going out to finally go or something. I don't want to do an ABS delete and I'm pretty sure that a new module isn't cheap... Plus I...

    Brakes keep sticking

Hey everybody. Looking for some help here with my brake system. In November I replaced nearly my entire brake system. I also did a hydroboost swap at the same time. Brand new parts Rotors Pads (1/2 Ton) 3/4 ton calipers All three brake lines (rubber hose) Master Cylinder Then...

    Torsen diff. Question

This is how I used to feel but the guy at the performance shop that I had do my tune on my LS swap said that he's done many builds all the way up to 600HP and they are running stock (gmt800) rear ends with the tru- trac. He said he wouldn't change the axle for anything less than 600HP

Coolent temp sensor for temp gauge. The one on drivers side between #1 and #3 Cyl's

That's the one right there. I've got that same Napa sensor. Seems to be pretty accurate.

Lots of 5.7 Vortec Engine Parts! (and some 5.3 parts)

Bump. Make me an offer. I'd hate to just throw working parts away.

    Torque Pro

I've got it too. I've got one of the BAFX adapters that is about 3 or 4 inches long and in a black plastic case. It was <$20 IIRC. I love the app a lot. I feel in the dark when I'm in someone's car without it and can't see random things like my throttle position, intake air temperatures, and...

    swap/upgrades to front calipers

With all this talk of the master cylinder not matching the bigger brakes I'm a bit confused. I can see the reasoning and the engineering logic behind saying that they have to match (and I don't necessarily disagree with it) but what about the hydroboost? The same master cylinder is listed for...

NBS shift lever/ gear selector on 97 steering column?

Does anybody know if it will fit? I'd like to be able to use the newer gear selector that has a button on the end of it I could use to enable tow haul mode on my LS swapped truck.

    stacks on a gas truck?...

I agree. I'm not a fan of stacks on any truck but big rigs. That's my opinion though. If you like stacks feel free to do it. People may be able to notice that it's not a diesel because it won't have soot stains on the tops of the stacks though. Although I guess you could simulate fake soot stains.

    front bag questions

I don't know much of anything about 2WD front suspension so I have no idea there. I've contemplated doing this exact same thing on my 4x4. Not for lowering purposes but to give a semi-bagged setup for better ride quality + having the air helper bags to keep me level with a load. Basically using...

Lots of 5.7 Vortec Engine Parts! (and some 5.3 parts)

I just completed an LS swap in my truck and have almost all of the Vortec 5.7 parts for sale. They are from my 1997. With that said I've got almost the whole 5.7 minus the block, heads, and oil pan. I'll list some of the bigger items off the top of my head Alternator Probably has...

    2002 5.3 in my 1997 K1500

Hmm I never thought of that... I'm going to do some checking into that tomorrow. I might pick up a M12 Die to cut the threads.

    2002 5.3 in my 1997 K1500

I like to keep things stock looking and even if I found a good place to mount them I'd hate to have the oil and temp gauges in my stock cluster not working and just sitting there dumb in my cluster.

    2002 5.3 in my 1997 K1500

My swap is actually finished (other than loose ends that I haven't had time to work on) I've been driving my truck daily for several weeks now. That A/C was a piece of cake with the bracket from Lextech. Very worth the $250. It comes with the A/C bracke that will keep your 98 compressor in the...

    No Oil Pressure

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I didn't quite have the guts to just start it up but what I did do was I pulled out the spark plugs so that the starter could turn it easier and faster. With the plugs out it turned at least twice as fast and within 30 seconds of cranking oil came up through...

    No Oil Pressure

This evening I finally got my 5.3 to the point where I was ready to test fire it. I disconnected the coil packs and pulled the fuel pump relay then went and turned the key. No oil pressure. Cranked it for a bit then stopped. Did this a few times and started to get a little nervous. I ended up...

    High voltage drop

What awg is that blue wire from the alternator? Looks like it might be 8 awg. I'd upgrade that wire to at least a 4awg. Make sure that your grounds are solid and at least 4awg if not 1/0. Also check all those connections for corrosion. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
