    What have you towed lately

Saving the day! My father broke his unload auger for his grain bins, so I used my "Z" to go grab my grandfather's auger. This has been more of a farm truck lately than any of the truck's we own for actual farm use!

    First Project Truck!! 1998 Z71

So.. it has been forever since I've updated this tread. The reason is simply because the truck has worked. Not flawlessly, granted, but it's work. Things I've done since the last update: Redid the rear brakes a second time, after the shoes delaminated (under warranty) Replaced the door locks...

    What have you towed lately

A hay tether for my father. These are used to fluff the hay before it's baled, so it dries faster. It doesn't weigh much; I figured I'd break in my new hitch with a light load!

    Travel trailer

I would seriously look into a weight distributing hitch. The hitch I just put on my Z71 was rated at 6k lbs, just like factory, but it was also rated at 10k lbs with a weight distributing hitch. So maybe yours would be able to handle it just fine. I can say for a fact though that those 30'...

    What have you towed lately

This wasn't exactly recent (two months?), but here is my Z71 doing its thing with a farm wagon. (The wagon was empty, which was good, because I later figured out the hitch on the truck was structurally unsound!)

    First Project Truck!! 1998 Z71

Goofing around with the truck today. Can't drive it, because it has a wheel bearing out and i'm waiting for a shop bay to open up, so I did the next best thing--I pretended to wheel it!

    First Project Truck!! 1998 Z71

I would've done that already, but the problem was that truck had 3:42 gears in it, and mine has 3.73's. I would've had to change the front axle too, and that didn't look like any fun!!

    First Project Truck!! 1998 Z71

It's been a while since I've updated the thread here. The truck has been doing it's thing admirably, other than a few hiccups--namely the oil cooler line issue, and the coolant randomly disappearing one day. I've put over 5000 miles on it since December, though, and I really can't say too much...

    First Project Truck!! 1998 Z71

I had a bit of a scare this weekend... On my way home from school friday night, the truck just randomly shut off from 60mph. No noises, no warnings, nothing. Just, dead. Also, attempts to restart proved futile.I figured maybe the alternator had gone bad, killing the battery, so I called my...

Sorry!!! I've never played this game before, lol. Next mark: Your 400 embarrassing someone else's ride. Out-pulling them, outshining them, whatever. Just making them feel dumb!

    The Stupid Electronics Questions Thread

Stupid question, and possibly not even in the right place, but here goes. '98 Chevy K1500, silverado trim, Z71 package. It has the seperate CD player below the heater controls. Said CD player worked in July before I did the engine swap. It doesn't work now. it will take a Cd, and you can hear it...

    First Project Truck!! 1998 Z71

I've been busy with school and work, so I haven't really been doing much with the truck other than driving it.:driver: However, it has been unseasonably warm here in Ohio, so I had the chance to do a couple of little things to it. I went ahead and go the filter I needed to install my Spectre...

    First Project Truck!! 1998 Z71

Truck update! The heater blower now works (bad switch) and the wipers now work (new pulse board). The radiator has also been changed out with a used one from a local mechanic, so now it doesn't leak any fluids! I've also gotten a sweet folding aluminum tonneau cover installed that I picked up...

    Help! Axle Whine...

So... I have an issue with whining. It's bearable when the dog does it, it's bad when the girlfriend does it, but now the truck is doing it too!! Here's the story: There is a whine coming from the truck at speed. It doesn't seem to be affected by whether I'm on the throttle or not, but it does...

    Busted Fuel Line

I would say try it yourself. The bed is fairly easy to take off, and Napa sells nylon line and compression fittings for not much money. I did pretty much the entire fuel return line on my Z71 for like $30. I'd say you could do the whole thing for under $100. As far as doing it in the cold... Get...

    First Project Truck!! 1998 Z71

Update!!!! For the first time in four months, it's road legal!!! Finally out of school for a while, and will be making money since I can actually have time to work now. So, out it comes! Took it for a drive to take my younger brother to work and to get gas. I was smiling like a little kid! Until...

    The Stupid Engine Questions Thread

:help: This question is more engine bay and actual engine, but i wasn't sure where to put it. Can someone help me by taking a picture of the mounting on their front splash shield? Both the plastic one and the aluminum skid plate. I took them off last summer when I did the engine swap, and don't...
