    Dads truck

Update on this. My dad chose to replace his distributor shaft. He had a shop do it. We asked for the old parts though. The nice thing is the shop said the one plug wire that was corroded was bad and just replaced all 8. So new distributor and new wires this time around. The old distributer...

    New scanner

so here’s the situation. My dad is getting a new distributor on his 97 Sierra with a 7.4. A local shop quoted him $160 in labor + parts and materials. The shop wants to take the upper intake off to do the job. Maybe I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure the upper intake is not required to replace the...

    Dads truck

I got my hands on my dads truck again for a short time. The truck does run even better than it did when we finished the job. I’m wondering if maybe it had a fouled plug or something that maybe is clearing up on its own? My dad had the oil changed and the shop scanned it for him and he had a...

    Dads truck

Thanks guys. I told him it might just be the radio crapping out…. It is from 1997. The plugs and wires don’t have very many miles on them I think maybe 30000 on the high side but I’m the one that put them in probably 5-6 years ago. Considering the way terminal 6 looked I wondered what the...

    Dads truck

Some may have read my post a few years ago about my dads truck it’s a 1997 k2500 with 454 vortec 167000 miles. In summery it would randomly get a lean bank 2 code. And run really rough it was not consistent enough to track down so we left it alone. Before we tore it apart my dad had a mechanic...

    Fuel pump relay

So just an update on this issue. Last week I drove about 2 blocks to my dads house and the truck wouldn’t run due to no fuel pump. I tried bypassing the relay like last time and it did not work. After about a week of messing with it in my spare time which wasn’t much I found that I had no power...

    Grease zerks

Similar to this one, and mine has a flexible hose on it maybe 8” long? Usually what happens for me by the time I get the gun to the zerk the front of the gun is partially off the ground so one hand has to hold the gun to the zerk and then I only have one hand to pump a grease gun that’s...

    Grease zerks

Well maybe I’m making it more of a problem than it needs to be but this is what I came up with. It cost me about $25 at the hardware store I was able to get to the idler and pitman arm super easy with it too. I think it will work on my 2011 Silverado also.

    Grease zerks

I’ll have to check it out from the top. I know I can see the pitman zerk on my 2011 Silverado but I can’t reach it. If it looks reasonable I might try making a extension to easily reach them from the top My idler arm has the extended grease zerk which has been handy

    Grease zerks

I have a 96 k1500 rcsb. All my steering and suspension components have grease zerks and are pretty new. It is time again to do my oil change and grease the fittings but I dread the pitman arm fitting. I have a very hard time sneaking it up to the zerk from the bottom that’s facing up. Some...

    Heater hoses

I got the heater hoses at napa it doesn’t look like there is a lot of options for them. The radiator hoses are not very old neither is the thermostat. Maybe 2 years? Hose clamps are something that I had forgotten about. When I did my hoses last I used those worm gear clamps and Iv had some...

    Heater hoses

Unfortunately my radiator has sprung some leaks and needs to be replaced. Since I’ll be in there I’m going to get new heater hoses because they are original from 1996. When I had the motor replaced I know the quick connect in the motor was replaced but the hose was not. I plan on staying with...

    242 t case swap

It’s a $100 and supposedly has 85000 miles on it but I can’t confirm that. I’ll ask about the truck it came out of. The thing is if Iv gotta tear it down to make it work in my truck then I feel like I may as well get a rebuild kit and just rebuild mine. If I can find one in decent shape that...

    242 t case swap

Iv been doing some research and found some things. Apparently a 241 t case of a 2500 will have a 32 spline input shaft while a 1500 truck will have a 27 splined shaft. Can anyone confirm this? If this is the case it will not work for me

    242 t case swap

I’m fairly positive my truck has a 241 t case. It is manual shift. Iv heard that as well. Iv also heard those pads get messed up if it’s gotten hot. I’m not saying mine is on its last leg but it certainly is not fresh and is declining

    242 t case swap

So maybe this will be a super easy question maybe not… I have a 96 k1500 rcsb. It has 285000 Miles. It’s had a lot of work done to it and there’s a lot more planned. One of which is the transfer case. Iv owned the truck for about 11 years and it has leaked from the tail shaft and front output...

    Fuel pump relay

I did the amp test again and got about the same. I did notice however that the oem relays I got at the salvage yard and the after market relay I got at napa are slightly different. The pins on the oem on are ever so slightly thicker and fit tighter than the aftermarket relay. I believe this...

    Fuel pump relay

I finally got some time to do some investigating. The receiver pins in the fuse box look fine and seem to be tight. I did do an amp draw test and had 6.75 amps. My battery is low so it’s on the charger right now and I’ll try it again with a charged battery. I’m wondering if the pin that melted...

    Fuel pump relay

I put the fuel pump in roughly 30000 miles ago and maybe 5 years? The filter has been replaced since then. I do have a multi meter though I’m pretty certain it’s 10 amp max. I don’t have any other kind of ammeter. The first time the relay died last week I turned it over enough to build oil...

    Fuel pump relay

Oh I forgot to mention it is a 96 k1500 rcsb. And It has had the updated harnness. I know of the connection on the frame rail near the tank. It has been cleaned and tight before but it’s been a while since I was there

    Fuel pump relay

Roughly a year ago my truck lost connection to the fuel pump relay due to a pin melting. I moved the pins to a vacant slot in the fuse box and put in a new relay. The relay is a skinny version of the stock square one and napa said it was all the same. It lasted about a year untill last week it...

    Radiator repair.

So unfortunately I got really sick for a while and we needed to radiator. I ended up using some jb weld. I know it’s not ideal but I had to get it going down the road again. So far it is not leaking and hopefully it will atleast get me to spring then if it leaks I’ll deal with it then

    Radiator repair.

I looked at it closer last night. It is leaking on the upper side of the yellow circle. And runs down the inside of the radiator where the tank meets the core. It does not leak until the thermostat opens and then the hotter it gets the more it leaks which makes sense. Im fairly certain there...

    Radiator repair.

From what could see the leak is right on top I’m wondering if it could be done with it in the vehicle? There used to be a radiator shop about 30 miles south of me but I know it changed hands and does mostly heavy mechanic stuff now I don’t know if they kept the radiator equipment. There is a...

    Radiator repair.

I have an all alluminum radiator that appears to have sprung a leak from a little pinhole. The hole is in the top near the upper radiator hose under the fan shroud. I need to look at it a little closer still but I’m curious on some thoughts on how to fix it? I “think” it’s a bad weld on the...
