    Smog Fail and Code 42

95 K1500 5.7L TBI... no codes no check engine light up until yesterday when we went to smog the truck to renew reg. They failed smog for timing being advanced 8*. On the way home check engine light came on. Scanned it with my OBD1 scanner and got a code 42 for timing control circuit fault. My...

    95 K1500 5.7 - Speedo, Tacho, Odometer, PRNDL, Shifts Weird - VSS?

Sorry, I mean the tach, odometer, and speedometer are dead, and the transmission is shifting abnormally. You are saying that's probably the ignition switch, not the speed sensor? Hmm...

    95 K1500 5.7 - Speedo, Tacho, Odometer, PRNDL, Shifts Weird - VSS?

I'm assuming issue is vehicle speed sensor at the transmission output? My mother's Honda had the same issue and replacing that fixed the problem. It's not my truck anymore I sold it to my ex but I'm going to be fixing it. Is it safe to drive even though the tranny shifts weird with a dead speed...

What gets wet to cause engine to die

Was doing some mild off-roading today and drove through a decent puddle at a reasonable speed and tons of water splashed everywhere and the engine sputtered to a halt. Obviously it didn't suck in water through the intake, but something electronic got too wet. Trying to restart it resulted in a...

    How to prolong knocking motor

I've put a lot of research into oil, though I'm no expert, so take from this what you will. There are many, many Vortec SBCs in SUVs, trucks, boats, and more happily running a variety of 40-weight oils with lots of hours or miles on them and no issues. The worst case scenario about switching...

1995 K2500 Utility Truck Daily Driver

That's a nice utility truck, but that isn't a box truck. Two different things ;)

    How to prolong knocking motor

Switch to something thicker like 10w-40 or 15w-40 and if that doesn't quiet it down it's time for a new engine. I wouldn't waste your money on oil additives.

    Blower motor selection

I've installed a few and I've never had any problems. I've processed plenty of warranty ones, though... I'd guesstimate maybe 3-5 years is average lifespan.

    Blower motor selection

Go to O'Reilly and the Murray one, which is reboxed VDO... Lifetime warranty so when it goes bad, they'll give you another one.

    95 350 Doesn't Like Low Speed

BWD/Standard is generally quality stuff. Just don't buy MasterPro. Trust me, I work at O'Somewhere ;)

Install your new distributor :) Have you checked fuel pressure under load?

Long bed but trying to decide whether or not to keep the camper shell I put on... it's practical but doesn't look cool!

Shocks and front end parts advice

Mevotech's regular stuff is crap. Mevotech Supreme is supposed to be good. I say supposed to be because if you look hard enough there are plenty of people complaining about premature failure. Moog has different series, just like ACDelco. Moog "Problem Solver" series, is the good stuff. Most of...

Shocks and front end parts advice

Don't get Mevotech, I've heard bad stuff about them. I'd stick with ACDelco Professional or Moog if you're going to keep the truck a long time. Make sure you get the Moog that's Made in the USA, some of it isn't. For shocks I'm putting KYB MonoMax on my truck - much cheaper than Bilstein and...

New Dorman and Cardone master cylinders

Eww, avoid Dorman whenever possible. Cardone rebuilt anything SUCKS but their new stuff seems OK.

95 K1500 Silverado Tire and Wheel Upgrade

Would 235 80 17 work? It's slightly narrower but is rated to work on 17x7 wheels.

95 K1500 Silverado Tire and Wheel Upgrade

Currently my stock K1500 is riding on a worn out set of Fuzion 265/75R16 tires the previous owner installed about 2 years ago on the stock wheels. I am thinking of buying 17" stock wheels from a GMT900 truck/SUV to upgrade the look of my truck for cheap. A tire place will give me a free set of...

    Fuel injector cleaner rec’s?

You're welcome! If I was you I'd go on Amazon and get yourself an OBDLink LX. It will work with an Android phone or tablet. Plenty of great apps to get live data... OBDLink's included app is good, there's also DashCommand which I really like as well. Torque Pro is good but the interface is ugly...

    Storage ideas?

I've been eyeballing this thing. Just got a camper shell so I probably won't end up buying it but it would look really nice if you wanted storage space without going over the top edge of the bed like most toolboxes (which I don't like the look of)...

    Fuel injector cleaner rec’s?

Meh, I think the best solution would be hook up a scanner with live data and check the misfire counters. See if it's a single cylinder misfire or multiple/random.

    Fuel injector cleaner rec’s?

If you want something that will actually clean the fuel system, injectors, and combustion chambers anything with PEA should do it. Gumout Regane (will have a PEA logo on the front), Chevron Techron Complete Fuel System Cleaner (black bottle, not the inferior gray bottle Fuel Injector Cleaner)...

    Differentials.. 75w-90 vs 75w-110

Sorry, I do see I made that typo. And thank you I'll just buy 75w-90 all the way around for simplicity's sake.

    Differentials.. 75w-90 vs 75w-110

I want to switch to AMSOIL Severe Gear in both the front and rear diffs. I don't tow or haul with my truck frequently, but I might be installing a camper shell and heavy toolbox, and I might tow (rarely) in the future. It seems like the ideal solution would be 75w-90 in the front diff and...

Long Bed Camper Shell - Bay Area

Looking to purchase a camper shell/truck topper for my 8ft bed GMT400. White preferred but any color is OK. Not looking for a brand new crazy expensive thing but also not a leaky beat up thing if that makes sense :) Budget is flexible, let's talk. I'm happy to drive any reasonable distance to...
