Do we even call this a build thread?

Man I been neglecting this thread. At any rate I been busier than a one armed paper hanger at work and the weather hasn’t been cooperating for working on a truck in the driveway (high winds and rain) so she’s sat with the block in a trash bag

Do we even call this a build thread?

No real progress this weekend, aside from getting the top end off the motor. I work all week and Saturday too so Sunday I hope to get the crank and rods and whatnot out. Then I’ll get the motor that’s in the truck out of the truck and tire down. Hoping to take the 2 and make 1 good one

    Tbi spacer?

I went with a specter 2 hole and a CFM tech pod spacer myself.

Do we even call this a build thread?

Also I bought a new daily driver this week (because gas mileage) so this project no longer needs to be done in a real timely manner (although I’d love to be able to get it out of the driveway so I can get my Harley out) so this has become one of those projects that gets worked on as time and...

    Engine paint

What all needs engine paint and what can I just use regular old spray paint on? As I’m building a new motor anyways I may as well shoot a coat if the good ceramic engine paint on it. I know block and heads need engine paint but what about oil pan, front cover, balancer, accessory drive, and...

Do we even call this a build thread?

Does anyone know what size the bellhousing bolts are so I can go grab some so I can bolt this damn thing to the stand?

I want your opinion - Full Front End Rebuild C1500

Definitely MOOG for the steering stuff. Ball joints I got at my local NAPA. Mind you this was 80k ago on my Cummins. Price doing the whole arm before you commit to ball joints and bushings though. They weren’t that much higher for me and I ended up boogering up an arm getting one of the old ball...

    Bellhousing bolts

Probably a stupid question and worthy of the stupid questions thread, but I am fixing to make the hour drive to my nearest big box hardware retailer to grab 4 bolts and 12 washers so I can put my 4.3 rebuilder motor on the stand. I don’t have the old motor out yet so I can’t just grab a bolt and...

Do we even call this a build thread?

And here is our rebuild candidate. It’s an 89 4.3 V6 with a blown head gasket. The advantage to this motor vs the one I have is this one didn’t lose oil pressure, and only has about 95k on it so the bearing journals *should* be better than the motor in the truck. Also attached is a rather crappy...

Do we even call this a build thread?

    Emissions delete vacuum lines

I’m actually still running a PCV. Just routed to a catch can instead of the throttle body. I did it on my Harley and actually picked up 2hp. And that motor is half the size of my 4.3

    Emissions delete vacuum lines

I’m staying with TBI and ECM, no collar above the throttle body anymore though. Running a 14x4” paper filter. Routing the PCV to a catch can on the inner fender. Photo is throttle body (sitting on my tool box how I plan to run it) so plug the left port, right one goes straight to the charcoal...

    Emissions delete vacuum lines

So I was going through the pictures I took of my 88 V6 as I was tearing down. It seems as though I forgot to take pictures of the vacuum lines. I am deleting my smog pump and EGR so those lines go bye bye. Does anyone know where my new lines should be going?

Do we even call this a build thread?

Well, weather finally broke and you can’t even tell it snowed. Got my silver FPR spring installed and probably going to get working on the distributor tonight. My Lunati cam kit is back ordered, but the rest of my engine rebuild stuffs (save new head/rod/main cap bolts) are in. So it looks like...

Do we even call this a build thread?

Motor is on its way out so no need to reach for anything quite yet. But it came with 1” extensions, of which I’ll end up using the one for the return line, and an adaptor on the feed that’ll allow me to run a gauge

Do we even call this a build thread?

So apparently it’s new parts day. EGR block off plate for intake, 1” TBI spacer, and new 3 core radiator arrived today. Radiator was missing the pair of electric fans and the shroud it was supposed to have with it though...

Do we even call this a build thread?

it appears a filter 1” taller will do it. And since I bought a 1” TBI spacer I shouldn’t even need to modify my cable bracket. But it is snowing today... in April... Infreaking Texas... so im vaulted as I’m working outside

    T56 to replace 5 speed

I drive semis for a living so I can get some mileage out of a clutch. The draws of the T56 are gearing and double overdrive. Plus being able to handle more power.
