Just got "This message is awaiting moderator approval, and is invisible to normal visitors."

First time I've ever seen this. What's up? This is on a reply I just made in the "Stupid lowered questions" thread. https://www.gmt400.com/threads/the-stupid-lowered-questions-thread.30/page-152 - post #1513 Richard

    The Stupid Lowered Questions Thread

Next up on the dummy list. Carrier bearing spacer. I've used them in the past to restore some angle to the driveshaft when dropping the rear.. but in this case I'm wondering WTH to do. The traditional carrier bearing spacer setup moves the carrier bearing UP when you put the spacer between...

    Trans fluid/ shift kit

I was pretty surprised to pick up an '88 RCSB 4.3 V6 / TH400 or whatever they started calling it by then - 3L80 etc. no (O) in the gear indicator on the cluster. It was the maroon GMC I posted pics of recently showing the example of the 31x10.50's stock height/stock wheels. It's the only...

Talk me into, or out of, it...

U-bolts persuaded into place and torqued down.. wasn't any bending them by hand, that's for sure. I used ratchet straps in opposite directions to pull the ends closer to each other. Spring and shackle hardware tightened back up, and notch braces re-torqued just to be sure. Shock extender...

    Trans fluid/ shift kit

Is that the transmission your truck has? Some of the early trucks did indeed come with the 3 speed trans but most 1500's came with the 700R4 which is 4 speed (overdrive.) Richard

'97 C1500, 5.7 Low/no oil pressure (indicated) at idle... FIXED

Surprised you didn't find other threads pointing at the sensor. It's a somewhat common failure. Even the OEM ones, once they get old, will fail but usually go intermittent before total failure. You'll remove the harness and find they have leaked oil through to the socket. When there's no...

    Particles in the brake fluid

For some reason the front hoses seem to fail more often than the rear, but if you're doing the front hoses it's not a bad idea to go ahead and replace that third one out back. The particles could also easily be any other rubber part in the system, such as seals in the master cylinder, calipers...

Talk me into, or out of, it...

Not the incorrect parts. All four look identical when laid down on top of each other, it's just a slight variance that speaks of sketchy quality control. :( I'll be digging into it in a few hours once the caffeine kicks in. LOL.. I mean gently by not using anything that would damage the...

    Dorman: A possible unpopular opinion

Yep, used to love being able to dig through all the Dorman bins and drawers. When things started to migrate to all blister pack (like assortments of fasteners) that's when the bins started to disappear. I'd blame not only manufacturing cost but inventory shrinkage since you know lots of people...

    1994_3500_6.5 died, swaping in a 1996_3500_7.4...wiring questions...

Just when I thought I was following now I'm really confused. 1995 the 4L60E went PWM on the TCC, and 1996 it went PWM on the shift solenoids, is what I understood. You're saying 4L80E's were always PWM on the TCC. Really? All the way back to 1991? And never on any of the shift solenoids...

    Dorman: A possible unpopular opinion

Dorman is sort of like today's version of the stuff you'd get decades ago out of the JC Whitney catalog. It's "OK" at best, and in most cases it's just outright trash. Dorman makes very little that is actually good quality, and I'm convinced that anything of theirs that IS good quality is...

You may be right on that, I really don't know - but what about the rest of the solenoids? Richard

    1995/96 dash in a 1998.

When I had my '96 dually (Sneaker wrecker truck) I kept spare change in the slide-out cupholder, and clipped my cell phone to the side of it. That's about all it was good for. I kept my drink (Coke, in a can) in a koozie, in the center console front compartment. Look at any 100 1995-up...

    2500 rotor on 1500 spindle

A little bit more info is required. Year/model/brake package for example. The first few years of these trucks, many 1500's came with "little" brakes (1" thick rotor) instead of HD brakes (1.25" thick rotor.) In '91 GM decided all of them should have HD brakes. If the truck has HD brakes then...

Talk me into, or out of, it...

No. But if I have 2 that fit fine no matter where you put them, and 2 that don't... you follow? 2 fit regardless of the 4 potential spots you could put them, and 2 don't. Anyway I'll be trying tomorrow to see if I can gently squeeze 'em a little bit and have them go though the plates. If not...

Rear diff fill plug? NPT plug?

Ain't all folks teachable, sir. At best, you can "condition" some of them. :anitoof: Richard

Rear diff fill plug? NPT plug?

We were young, inexperienced, and there wasn't any internet to ask folks what was what. We made mistakes, learned, and bought correct tools. It's OK now. :) Richard

    1995/96 dash in a 1998.

The dash will fit, but just be sure you bring the black plastic A/C ductwork along with it. The 97-up one is not the same as 95-96 and won't fit. Not talking about the actual box where the evaporator and heater cores, mode doors, etc. are - just the long ductwork piece that runs across behind...

Thumping sound coming from around the blower

When the linkages on the vent position actuator were gummed up/crudded up on my '94, it would thump into place after a while. Cleaning the crud off those and spraying a little fresh white lithium grease so they moved smoothly again solved the issue. Richard

Rear diff fill plug? NPT plug?

I had trouble with those stripping when I'd use a 3/8" extension as the removal tool. Then I bought some legit square sockets and they fit way better. My "go to" method for getting really stuck ones loose in the past was to persuade them with a chisel. A couple hits across the edge in a...

    Bigger tires

31x10.50's on a dead-nuts stock RCSB C1500. They fit but I thought they looked a little tight on the front. Stock wheels. All that and a 4.3 V6 and 3L80.. what a combo, lol Richard

Talk me into, or out of, it...

Yeah the crust is pretty superficial. Out of 4 u-bolts, 2 slip right over and the other 2 fight and spread out. Doesn't matter which position you put them in (i.e. swapped for the 2 that slip right over), so it's the bolts, not the tube. I'll be battling it possibly later this morning or...

To be 100% honest you have an uphill battle ahead of you. The '96 PCM isn't going to play well with that '94 transmission, to begin with. Standalone harness for a Vortec 7.4? You have a donor truck.. what's up with its transmission? Richard

LCA Failure after trimming for Belltech spindles?

When I bought my '92 ECLB it had very roughly cut LCA's and stock 15's. I ran the cut arms for a few tens of thousands of miles, no issues. When I rebuilt the front end, I was doing ball joints, control arm bushings, etc. so it just made sense for me to grab some LCA's from the boneyard and...
