92 5.7 Factory pistons flat top or dished.

I used these. They came with the Weiand 177 I put on my TBI 350 G20 van in the mid 2000s. Pretty steep price now but never had one come apart. With some scrap metal, a skill saw with a metal blade, a drill and a bench grinder they could easily be replicated. It is just a tapered wedge with a...

Chevy 4.3 Firepower Ignition Kit from Performance Distributor

I tested the modules myself, definate difference and I saw about the same timing variation. As for the MSD, I used it for timing retard when I had the weiand 177. It was still working well when I pulled the SBC out of the G20 after having used it for ~10 years. It was mounted in about the...

    Vortec to 383

You can get an upgraded spider but they are a little spendy. Even a stock 350 needs some manifold porting work. Cammed 305 even responded to the ported manifold. 425-450 is about the limit of the stock injectors running them at 75 psi.

Chevy 4.3 Firepower Ignition Kit from Performance Distributor

Stock module runs out of steam at 3,500 rpm if it is an 048. 369 holds on a little better. The timing advance curves end up being different between them by as much as 8° above 4,000 rpm. The DUI mimics the 369 in timing. The DUI has more dwell built into the circuit which improves coil charging...

92 5.7 Factory pistons flat top or dished.

Ran ZZ4 heads on my G20 van years ago. Used the stock intake after grinding the bolt holes and getting some tappered washers made for that exact intake bolt angle swap. Ran the same intake on both a 601 headed 305 and the 601 headed 355 before that. My 601s were about 51cc.

Giving my ride some much needed attention.

Spent a little of my off time swapping exterior lighting to LEDs. Ordered the wrong bulbs for the reverse lights and forgot the front turn signals had dual bulbs. Also ordered an LED replacement for the burned out underhood light. Tail lights should be here on the 24th. Also about to redo my...

Chevy 4.3 Firepower Ignition Kit from Performance Distributor

Been running DUI modules and coils for years in TBI and Vortecs. Typically use MSD cap and rotor. Taylor Thundervolt wires work very well and fit the stock looms. Have had a couple of Live wires come apart where they were crimped and the massive size of them does not fit the standard GM...

What are the clear tails going for these days?

Actually look decent on that rig. Found some similar ones for mine although the look is a little different and I like the blacked out backing inside. Using 6000K 2057 LEDs on mine. Hoping they are so bright it deters tailgaters at night. Express and Savanna vans use all 4 bulbs for running...

Giving my ride some much needed attention.

Still working 6 day work weeks at work but did order some more stuff yesterday. Doing a full exterior LED conversion and decided to update the bland OEM tail light look to something more modern looking.

On my OBD2 I read mine with GM Enhanced parameters on OBDLink tied to my ELM327 device as well as through HP Tuners.

You can read it on OBD1 or OBD2 datastreams when you have a 4L60E or 4L80E.

Yep! I can confirm both the Trucool 40K and the M7B both work very well with the GM factory Express van orientation. Spare core support I have off a 99 G3500 van I parted out. Factory cooler mounts fittings down, just under the hood latch. M7B is the same width as factory, just taller and...

    Gmt800 fans ?

Its not so much that it runs hotter per say. Its more the body and engine compartment make it nexessary to have stronger fans. For example a mid 80s 2.8L F-car has the same radiator core as a mid 80s 350 truck. The 2.8L needed the larger core because of the small grille opening and the single...

It must work ok that way across the board. Mine cools and heats up the whole cooler. GM still builds the vans with the coolers in the same orientation.

The stock GM cooler on my Express van was mounted that way. Worked perfectly fine. I mounted both the trucool 40K and the M7B that way too.

    Real world. Mpg

You will probably lose 40% MPG with a 6.0L gas compared to the 6.5. 8.1 will get the same mileage as a 6.0L in that heavy pig. 5.3 is a dog in a light truck. I never had a problem leaving 99% of them light to light and beyond in my 5.7L powered Express van.

To LS or not to LS, that is the question

GM had some aluminum 6.0Ls in vans around 05-06. I have personally pulled 2 of them. Complete with LQ4 dished pistons. Aluminum block holds up every bit as well as a cast iron, maybe better. Aluminum is less prone to cracking from localized hot spotting. I think it merely boils down to cost.

To LS or not to LS, that is the question

Honestly I would rather have a PSI 8.8 with a hotter cam. In school bus trim they make like 565 ft/lbs @ 1,600 rpm and 270 hp @ 2,600.

    What is this called???

Browse through the heater hose fitting box at your local parts house. Talk with the guy that has been there a while or the commercial guy. Its generally kept behind the counter. It has all sizes of plastic hose splices. One end will push into the grommet and the other end the hose will slide over.

    Gmt800 fans ?

Dead sure that it was a CFM problem. Ever notice how GM still does not put electric fans on the Express vans. Not even with the 4.3. I have times the fan clutch kicks in a 75 mph. Engine temp drops a solid 20°F when the fan engages.

Bought a KKS radiator for the van. Buddy has one in his 6.0L swapped 97 C1500. Runs 180°F on the hottest of days with the a/c blasting. Has a shroud and 16" Flexalite Syclone fans. I am hoping my 383 does not throw overheating tantrums with a 34x19x2-5/16 core and dual 16" 3,000 cfm fans.

That one is about 1" too thin on the core. All 3 of the 98 and 99 Tahoes that my brother and I have had as well as the 99 Suburban my brother had and the 99 Suburban we parted out had a 2" core. I just threw 2 of them out for scrap at the shop. They both came out of a vehicle that had either...

    Gmt800 fans ?

Seems funny to me but seems upside down is the way to mount these fans. I had to put a small slot in the shroud on them to clear the p/s return hose on the gearbox of the van. They came off less than a year later due to the fact they could not cool the 350.
