    OBD1 /winaldl connection issues.

Most of the time it's a system issue, but windows doesn't make it easy to find the root cause. A couple of things you should do to rule out connection issues related to the computer/conflicts if you haven’t already: 1. Confirm the device (cable) is connected (not just assigned a...

Is the break flush with the block, or is part of the stud still visible? Post a picture. If you have something to hold onto, start with vice grips and apply heat around the stud. Otherwise, if you’re using an extractor bit, make sure to keep your ratchet or wrench at a right angle when applying...

It's not just how eager everyone is to help—it’s the depth of experience-based knowledge shared here, not just books (like me). Even the most seasoned experts might occasionally slip up, but it’s impressive that they rely on their memory rather than spending hours verifying every detail with...

Piezoelectric material is definitely one of nature's magical stones. The piezoelectric effect is essentially nature’s way of converting mechanical pressure into electricity—and vice versa. Technically the piezoelectric effect is a phenomenon where certain materials generate an electric charge in...

    Constant knock sensor

That would be very entertaining. Likely more advantages for those with an ear for engine noise. I believe the challenges with a torque procedure in tight spots for various engines/accessories may be the root cause for many parts that get over-torque. My guess is most diy types do not own a...

Yes they are unique - 1 year thing. They are indeed part of the P4 family and yes removable memcals with 8192 baud - not 160. I’m no expert, but I do have one in my 91 truck.

For these older trucks, the knock sensors on high-mileage stock vehicles often add little value due to the excessive noise from worn components. Moreover, modifications tend to render the original setup ineffective because many DIY enthusiasts overlook the importance of the knock sensor (kS)...

The after markets will work too. Just need to make sure they give you the right one - you take along your DVM to parts store and probe it right there on the counter.

Yeah - it can quite frustrating when the parts stores are selling the wrong part and don't even know it. I put it on the manufacturers for this mess. I honestly can't blame a mechanic/shop either - he or she is just ordering the parts based on vin/model/year etc.

OK. You should have a black tip with your truck. I'm wondering if the previous owner(s) were haunted by the same code and never checked the knock sensor with the assumption that it was new-followed by the wiring friendzy and ultimately pulled the bulb? Did you get to the 2nd step after the 5V...

I believe it ultimately depends on whether the vehicle has a PCM or an ECM, so by year and trans. In this case, the OP has a PCM because of the Trans-E. A 700R4 should have an ECM with an external knock filter (ESC). The resistance of the knock sensor (KS) should differ between a system with an...

I would be surprised if that’s the case. Although I have seen the wrong pictures and even descriptions listing the KS for both Auto and Man trans regarding GMT400s-I don’t believe that’s possible. I guess you have would have a 50/50 chance of it working.
