Not sure if this has been addressed, so here goes. 1996 3/4 ton LB 2wd..5.7 I want to free up the exhaust for better flow. The truck seems like such a slug when you stick your foot into it ( I know it's heavy, but geez) I don't want obnoxiously loud, the Kackle of glass packs or something that will drone inside. No full exhaust, just a cat back setup. I have a flow master on my car but it has a drone and it's very tiring to deal with. I've been looking at the Magna Flow site and all there mufflers are about half as long as my stock unit...but they are dual in and out too. Is this too much to ask? Opinions will be greatly appreciated..

Magnaflow does offer dual in single out mufflers, Jones Full Boar is similar to Magnaflow and they offer some of the same styles of mufflers; big case are going to be your best bet for a mild tone,

I have the Jones MF2468, it's fairly mild at cruising speeds, but sounds like the gates of hell when you punch it, I don't know what your local exhaust guy is like, but mine re-routed my true duals from straight back to behind my tires for like, $75, so I assume it wouldn't be too bad if I had them redone muffler back.

Or, you could buy a Y-pipe, and just run a single in single out muffler using the stock tail pipe,

If you're looking at cat-back systems I'd take a look at Gibson. I have a SI/SO aluminized Gibson cat-back system on my V6 truck and I like it a lot. Very minimal drone and cab noise but lots of growl when you get on the throttle hard.

I would also invest in a high flow cat if it would be in your budget, especially since you're already going cat-back.

I like flowmaster but a lot of people feel like they're.. idk? overused. They make a good mid-range muffler that has less drone and a beefy throttle.
Gibson, thrush, borla. they would all be good candidates.

I would do a dual in dual out or a single in dual out.

Thanks. The 3/4 ton has that wired 2 in with separate cats before the muffler. That's why I was trying to go that route. Don't really want to do the who;e exhaust right now. Just want a little more power and mileage..if that's possible. Another issue seems to be mine is a long bed extra cab, not a 4 door. Some don't seem to list a cat back for that length..

I'm with BowtieBrody on recommending the Jones muffler. Just like the MagnaFlow, but half the price. I took off a Flowmaster because of the drone after I added headers.

There is a seller on eBay (called performance-curve) who sells the Jones max flow and can ship you a 3" mandrel bent tail pipe with free shipping for less than 200 total. We had it installed in a night. Mine is a 2 into 1 and the jones MF2588. It is extremely quiet until you jump on it, and you really do have to jump on it. There's a bit of drone at 1800 when you're towing and then it quiets right up however my truck is a 7.4L and the 5.7L could be different with different pipe sizes. I'm not 100% thrilled with the tone of the muffler, because I've always preferred the sound of flowmasters and this sounds a bit old school like cherry bombs but its held up really well and I do get compliments on the whole thing.

I like my thrush welded dumped on my truck, it's a DI/DO. I'm gonna run a cherry bomb vortex on my 99 tahoe though with a DI/SO for stock exit appearance.
