Another damn novel!

Do you have any history with, or any info for GMT400's that have had an LS swap done?
My '98 (sig pic) has been immobile for too long (uuhhmm, like almost 4 years!) with a 4.3 that spit the intake manifold gaskets before I caught it.
Soooo...this winter it's getting a new heart beat.
When I had the truck running, I had an exhaust system built for it with the intent of an eventual V8 transplant.
Some buddies & I built a system partially from a kit & then some custom bent pipes.
A modded tucked up & forward 'Y' pipe into a high flow cat, into a 3" mid pipe to a SI/DO muffler, followed by 3" tails with resonators @ the very ends.
Oops! The little 4.3 did not like that at all! Way too loud, killed what little power the 6 had, & threw codes.
We then modded the system by eliminating the driver's side tail pipe via a SI/SO muffler. Yea, that side was completely removed.
Sounded way better, but still felt the power loss.
Now that the truck is finally gonna have the power to back up it's appearance, (Yay!) my 'Q' is, do you think that the existing system will be sufficient for the LS? Too much restriction, or not enough?
I know that a new 'Y' will probably need to be modded up.
I actually kinda like the basic sound of the system. Very throaty, with a nice sound @ idle. Sounded a lot tougher than what it really was!
Although it made the 6 have even more of a 'tractor' sound @ higher rpm's than they already have!
I really don't like systems that have a rrrrrrraaaaappp sound when on the skinny pedal. I prefer more of an angry growl!
Thanks!

Yes, we offer pretty much everything Magnaflow sells. When you're searching for mufflers or other "universal" parts, don't enter your vehicle information. Entering your vehicle information will only show parts specific to your Year, Make Model. Apologize for the confusion.

Here you go:

We actually have a 10% off discount on all Magnaflow products right now. Enter discount code: MF10 at checkout. Free shipping on orders over $99!

Oh yea. It's a 6.0, hotter cam, EFIlive, 4L80e.

(Damn, damn, damn!!! Cat's outa the bag now!)

How much horsepower are you shooting for with your 6.0? 400-450? What about headers?

I see 2 potential problems. 3" is fundamentally too large for the type of HP your mighty 4.3L was throwing down, depending on what you're shooting for with your LS swap, 3" into dual 2.5 out will probably be fine.

Resonators after the mufflers, I don't like. Get rid of the resonators all together and dial in your sound with mufflers. Resonators add a wild card to how the final exhaust tone will sound and I always recommend going without them unless drone is a huge concern (Could be one of the reasons why your 4.3L sounded like a tractor). Even still, a quality muffler will reduce drone to some extent.

I do have *some* experience with LS Swapped GMT400's believe it or not, but until you really start building it, my recommendations are merely based on fundamental basics.

Y-pipe, X-pipe, H-pipe. Everyone has an opinion and there are pros/cons to each. You going for max power or the best sound? When you choose headers and decide single exit or dual exit then start thinking about your intermediate piping.

well now i feel like an ass.....

HA! Please don't, I'm sure others do the same thing. The vehicle search is a nice feature for kits but if you're looking for something specific the search bar works best. Let me know if you're considering those mufflers, I'll toss in an extra discount for the "feeling like an ass" factor.

Do you guys just sell the tubing an mandrel bends? Im putting long tubes on mine an with the lift kit I need to go down the driver side an cross over behind the transmission. Then I think I'm going out in front of the rear tire after the mufflers for now.

I found this on Ebay an is what I consider the best deal after all my searching.

I also need 2 3" lap joint band clamps an possibly 2 2.5" ones, probably butt joint type on those.

Welcome to the site. I've been looking for a Magnaflow muffler for my 97 Chevy C2500 with the 5.7 Liter. Any suggestions? Links are appreciated.
