Howdy, i was just curious on what everyone thoughts were on a dual into a single exhaust system, need my truck to have low end power and what i heard was if you turn it into a dual all the way back with no cross pipe you loose low end power. my muffler if falling off and i dont want one on there anyways everyone around here are straight piped and i was just curious if anyone put a y pipe on and went from dual into single and how it ran. i want noise i know the noise regulations around here and well i live in bum egypt so there really isnt any regulations, the cop cars around here all have modified exhaust on there cop cars so i aint worried about it. i have the stock cats under her and dont plan on droppin the penny for some high flow ones. i have a 1997 chevy 1500 ext. cabe with the stock exhaust. i just want to know how it sounds but mostly how it runs on the low end.
Thanks,
Nate

My 97 also has dual into single with high flow cats , I was thinking of going to a Y pipe but it runs great now..I've been doing a lot of researching and it seems that the dual into single or a Y pipe with 3" pipe is the best setup for a stock 350.

Y-pipe, X-pipe and H-pipe configurations all have their own benefits and drawbacks. For most of the older 350s a Y-pipe or H-pipe setup will probably be most appropriate for stock engines and deliver the most appealing exhaust note. It's hard to blanket statement an entire run of engines, but if you have any specific questions about your setup feel free to send us a PM!

Factory exhaust systems were a "2 into 1"/"dual into single" same thing, no worries. I wouldn't run too small of a pipe though.

My head pipes were dual 1 7/8ths but are now true 2" pipes... made a HUGE difference but ya small pipes will choke you and too large you will lose velocity so either way.... Im still thinking of going into a Y but from what I understand it would be the same as what I have now with duals into a single out.... So why waiste the money when I can do other mods:evillol:

Mine is a 98 5.7 it had dual 2" pipes ran to a di/so muffler 3" tail pipe. Now it has the duals "y" piped together into 3" pipe right behind the passenger side bank up stream o2 sensor. The single 3" goes into a 12" resonator, then into an 18" Magnaflow si/do and to dual 2.5" tail pipes. I cant honestly say i notice any difference over the stock setup except for the sound differences.
