For those who don't know, I got rear ended in Red two weeks ago, and am now looking for a Yukon/Tahoe/Suburban to drive while I fix her up. For those of you who do your own tuning, what is the best (and easiest to use) software? I already had Black Bear tune the 454, but when I get the next truck, I think I'm just going to buy software and do my own tuning on both from now on, more just to save time than anything. There's nothing wrong with the BB tune, I just need to be able to go from Eco to Performance when I want to. So, opinions?

EFILive is the best I have found, that's what BB uses to tune with, so does Mike (the forum admin here at GMT400), as do I. HPT is another decent one, but there are some things I'm not a fan of with HPT.

Those are the only 2 programs that I'd even consider though, tunercatsII is good but no longer directly available, and has no logging capabilities either, Jet DST is Jet's version of TCII, but they removed all the benefits of tunercats, severely crippled it, and offer absolutely no support.

If you want to purchase EFILive, I am a authorized reseller for them, my damn site is having server problems at the moment and is offline while they have been trying to fix it most all day today, so I can't send you a link, but if you're interested in it, shoot me a PM and we can do something.

also, if you're looking at any '96-97 GMT400, you'll have to do a 411 swap to tune it with EFILive or HPT. but the benefits of the 411 when you're tuning yourself are great.

Yeah I have the 411 in the big block, and bought one awhile back as a spare or to tune for another truck. I couldn't pass up 25 bucks for it. I won't run a blackbox ever again now that I've had the 411. How much is the software?

Interested in the EFILive software as well Alo, I'll shoot you a PM. EFILivewas the only one I'd considered, I've read and heard so many good things about it.. Just need to experience it now.
Do you sell the cables aswell Alo?
Another quicky question.. did the '98 GMT400s come with the 411?

EFILive is $899 for GM vehicles and comes with licenses to tune 2 separate vehicles. more licenses can be added on if you want to tune more than 2.

Any supported vehicles can be logged, the tune can be downloaded and viewed/modified on a computer as much as you want without using a license....but flashing the PCM requires a license, but once a vehicle has been licensed, you can re-flash it as many times as you want (i.e. you will only ever use 1 license on a vehicle, and if you don't need to flash the PCM, like just logging for diagnostics, you don't need a license at all) if that makes sense. Feel free to ask any questions.

yeah I sell all the EFILive hardware, basically the software is free, you can download it right now if you want to play around with it and see how it works, then when you purchase it, you're buying the hardware (cables, tuning module, licenses, serial#, etc) to enable it to be used.

I wish my site was up, I have a bunch of information on it that I could point you towards, but just ask if you have any questions.

here is where you can download the software from:
http://www.efilive.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=48&Itemid=133

there are currently 2 versions, V7.5 and V8, they are currently still working on building V8 so a lot of the functionality in there is not complete, if you're just looking around the software and looking at tunes to see how it works, I'd only download V7.5 for now since that is the version that is fully functional and has both the logging and tuning tools you can look around at.

I didn't think so, just when Alo said if looking at 96-97 trucks, a 411 swap is necessary. Threw me off a bit.
Thanks for clarifying :)

yeah, the '98 had an updated blackbox, and that blackbox is supported by EFILive, but the earlier 96-97 ones aren't....but even though the 98 is supported, there is FAR more ability, and resolution, and everything in the 411, so it's still very much worth the swap if you're doing your own tuning, even in a '98

I use tunercatII. You can still get it if you want it, but it will run around 800-1000 bucks.

Which is right around what efiLive costs IIRC.

I use tunercatII because I do 6.5 diesels. Only other option is wester's DDT diesel tuner which is around 2 grand. FYI, it'sessentially tunercatII with a few tweaks least time I checked. I use wester's vdf with tunercatII to do my truck...
