does anyone know what i can do to test the dizzy and the coil to be sure whats wrong instead of just tossing parts at this thing?

well i was told to check the fuel pressure...the truck hasnt run in a week....so when i did i put the gauge on and it went to 59 on ign. on and held during cranking, then it started tryin to start so i cut it off and tried it again ad it fired off and the pressure dropped during idle and rose past 60 when i rev it up so i took it down the road and it ran perfect like nuthin wrong...since my wife and kid are in the truck more than me im gonna put a fuel pump it anyway...ive heard of this happening before then leaving people stranded cuz the pump gives out all together...

If you haven't recently, go ahead and swap the cap and rotor with an ACDelco unit. I've had those cause all sorts of no start and rough running issues with L31's. Cheap insurance, in my opinion.

ended up being the fuel pump, i replaced it and it runs like it did when i got it a year ago....the truck sat for months at a time cuz the p/o never drove it...dont really understand why it went down at 116k but ohwell its fixed and now my wife has sumthing to drive again....thanx to everyone who had input...
