Just an update... 4 years later. Today the truck got Caltracs, new leaf spring bushing and a fresh set of shocks. I put the Chevy grill and light covers back on, Tahoe wheels got new center cap stickers, new Holley repop floor mats and a new picture.

Well.....I know what I'm doing tonight....36 page read!!!! Looks nice, I love me the steppys!
I just skimmed it all over myself and wow has a lot changed so I figured it was appropriate to give a quick update. I still have a desire to bag the truck but I am sticking with the simplicity of the static drop. The Caltracs have completely solved the wheel hop. Th 4.8 "LS" swap is awesome, it has so much more torque than the 305 that the drivability of the nv3500 manual trans is amazing, it no longer feel like driving a truck. it feels like driving a modern manual transmission car. It does not feel like a performance trans but I feel like I could put anyone in this truck and easily teach them to drive stick in it, its very forgiving. I have a stage 2 clutch in the truck so it does grab hard when you want it to. I am waiting for delivery of a set of 18x8 / 18x10 wheels and tires for the truck... delayed shipping ect... Im going to be running Mickey Thompson E/T Street tires on the rear. It should have an aggressive look. I am going to go in more of a performance direction with the truck and hopefully run it down the track a couple times. I will try to keep this page updated as I make changes.

Thanks! Im very happy that the truck never ended up leaving the family. My dad is great and im glad he got me into this hobby. My son is showing interest in working on cars and is a big part of bringing this project back to life. I have some big plans for this truck in the next couple years and I want to document it here. I have gotten so much help and information along the way and I want to provide as much help for the next guy in return. I know previously on this thread I had some info about my dads 29 Chevy truck, I will make sure to snap some pictures of the current projects and share them here as well.

Just thought I would add some underwood pictures since im stuck waiting on parts. I feel like half of everything I order is backordered. I finally bought wheels and tires, I got the rears but the front wheels are backordered and the front tires are backordered.... even though Jegs said they were "in stock, ready to ship".... oh well.I have put some miles on with the cal-tracs and im very happy with them. The truck also got new shocks on all 4 corners so that helps to but the cal-tracs really make the truck hook up nicely.

I put Cal-tracs on my Duramax and it made a big difference in how it hooks up. They are definitely a well designed and built product. The guys are great to deal with as well.

Can you give some info on your air intake system, please? I just put an LS into my '89 Cheyenne, and that's one of the last puzzle pieces for my swap. I've also noticed you have a pancake a/c compressor mounted like original, as do I. Are you using the original controls for it? Thanks

The air intake tube and filter box are off of a 2007 Chevy motorhome chassis. I purchased a chassis that never had a body installed on it as a donor for the swap. I purchased the chassis from a gentleman who bought it for a project and never got around to it. It had 55 miles on it. I don't know if that will help you. I would like to replace the intake tube since it is faded but I cant find a suitable replacement so I feel your pain there, theres not much available that has that stock look that I like.

Hopefully I can help out a little more in regards to the A/C. I bought a generic R4 compressor swap bracket off of eBay. Since my truck came with the other style a/c compressor stock I did have to install a new compressor and lines off of a 93ish gmt. I am using the factory controls on the dash to control the a/c. The original 97 harness was overlaid with the 07 harness and everything is controlled through the 07 ecu. Basically the sensors and the dash switch are all connected to the ecu in the proper locations for the 07 ecu and the wiring to the compressor is from the ecu. This way it all works like stock. I have a mechanical fan but with the wiring like this the fans will come on when the a/c is on and the idle will bump up.

Thanks for the info. I really like that air intake set-up. For me, I used an aftermarket AC bracket, as my 305 had a steel ac bracket that held other components as well. I'm gonna use electric fans controlled by a PWM controller from Autocool guy, with signalling provided by the truck controller. I'll probably need a trinary switch to tell the PCM when the a/c is on, for idle-up
