I usually sand with 800-1000g and clear with automotive grade 2k clear which has some uv inhibitors..... no polishing. Clear tinted with some black can make for smoked lens lights.
ChrisFix has a great video on Youtube about wet sanding headlights.

What I do is use a 8oz spray bottle and do swirling motions with 400g, after one bottle, I refill and do side to side motions with 400g until the bottle is gone again. I do the same thing with 600g then 2000g. After that, I spray 3 layers of clear coat on and leave it. You CAN do wet sanding with 3000g to get rid of the "orange peel" on the clear coat, but I didn't find it necessary and it gets rid of some of the glossiness of the clear coat. So I just leave it.

Just go glass less work , only cons is it's fluted and crack if a rock chips it. But for plastics make sure to use some wax to protect it. I noticed plastics go hazy after a year or so depending on weather .
I know glass is better, but all these lenses are original GM lenses and bc none of them were cracked, I wanted to keep them. Clearcoat prevents the lenses from going hazy. I've done this before on my 2007 Ford Taurus and 1994 Ranger and they held up great and never got hazy 2+ years later.

I have done maybe a hundred or more headlights , tail lights and light bars. Unless the damage is minor , I start with 800 on a 3" DA, go to 1000, 1500, 300 Trizac and then buff and polish with 3M Perfect It steps 1 & 2. I then use the 3M clear wipe to coat them. I have used other products but this works best and is the most consistant. I tried to upsell someone on fixing their headlights. They replied that they did them themselves and thought they looked great. I offered to do them and the person would not have to pay if I didn't improve them, they paid.

Can be had elsewhere cheaper and there are other brands available for significantly less such as Astro. Can also get the arbor and hook and loop pads and an air powered mini angle die grinder can be pretty effective with the air regulated down. The arbor and pad in a drill motor is a bit of a handful.
