With at least some part numbers, NGK is the supplier to ACDelco. The plugs in my Trailblazer (Iridiums) are made by NGK but packaged and labeled as ACD. I've heard that ACD does not "make" spark plugs any more, and hasn't "made" plugs for years--maybe decade(s).

So far as I know, ACDelco does not "make" ANYTHING. They're a sales organization, every part number they sell is sourced from someone else, then put into an ACDelco box.

Champion had the most-brittle porcelains in the industry when I quit using them near 40 years ago. Soft, fast-wearing electrodes, too.

I used to like Autolite, but then they moved production to China for at least some part numbers.

I run NGK in everything, Love their Iridium -IX plugs in the twosmokers. But as with AC Delco you need to watch out for counterfeit plugs when buying online.

IF a person has to adjust the gap on fine-wire spark plugs (Platinum, Iridium) then using a tool to grab the side electrode at it's base where it's welded to the shell is the better way. CLOSING the gap is probably less risky than OPENING the gap, especially opening the gap by using a wedge tool.

Cramming a wedge tool between side and center electrode can bend the fine-wire center electrode, and knock the Platinum or Iridium "lump" off the side electrode.
Gotcha, thanks for the explanation. I closed the gap by tippy tapping the ground strap on concrete and then using small channellocks on the outside of the ground strap if I went slightly too far. The center electrode was only touched by the slip of a feeler gauge stack so hopefully I'm alright. It's true the angle of ground strap to electrode isn't ideal, if I were shopping for new plugs I'd definitely start with the right ones to begin with.

Totally useless if the gap is already too small.

Damages the fine-wire center electrode if clamped-down too tightly.

Typical E-S-L description. No doubt a Chinese, or at least Asian product.

Snap-On (Blue-Point) and others sold a similar hand-held pliers deal decades ago that had a built-in gap gauge, squeeze the handle and it'd close the gap to whatever the gap-gauge was set to. Again, not a good idea with fine-wire plugs. Worked OK on "normal" plugs.

I knew you were going to say that!

But I agree with this.
You could also use it without putting gauge in tool, just compressing and then check with gauge.

Buy your fine wire plugs pregapped, if they are NGK they will not vary enough for it to matter. Thrust but verify...;)
