^ 4L80E was my first thought as well.

You'd still have the transfer case to deal with but IIRC you can swap the TC input shaft and the 80E will bolt up to what you have. Junkyard driveshafts might be harder to find though.

Go to the junkyard and crawl under a couple of trucks. Take some measurements. It'd be nothing to drill some holes to mount a crossmemeber. Don't know ow where you're located but here's a possible source.

I’m only speculating but wouldn’t the 2wd suburban have a 2 piece drive shaft? So maybe the front half would clear it because it’s parallel
The last Suburban to come with a 2 piece driveshaft was the '91 squarebody. all GMT400 burbs ive owned were 1 piece, shorter length for 4wd due to the transfer case

This is probably not much help, but I worked at a shop some 20 years ago that did a four-wheel-drive conversion to 2 Wheel Drive on a 1991 K 1500 two-door Tahoe that was also lowered by adjusting the torsion bars.

I worked in the body shop there, so I didn’t pay a whole Lotta attention to if they did any cutting or welding to do the conversion.

I do remember that they did change the rear to five lug, I don't remember if the rear was flipped or the springs were changed to lower like the front.

The front spindles were changed to 2 Wheel Drive 5 lug, as I think the ball joints for 2 Wheel Drive or four-wheel-drive take the same ones, Also the front rear was removed from the truck.

I’m not sure what automatic transmission was used in it or driveshaft other than I know it was a one piece driveshaft from a donor pick up truck that was hit in the front.
