Driving home from tractor supply today, truck (5.7 TBI) sputtered twice, started backfiring like crazy.. i pulled over before a big curve. It died just before i got it completely off road. It will crank but not start / turn over now. Where should i begin / key spots? Oil pressure / level & engine temp were good. Over 1/2 tank of gas. Im almost positive i saw some blue smoke shooting out tailpipe when it was backfiring.

I plan on checking fuel relay, injectors first . Just what comes to mind

Since owning this truck for the last 6 yrs, it feels alot like owning one of the 2nd/ 3rd gen cummins always needing some sort of maintenance done every week and reminding me of running an old peterbilt in oilfield .. u practicaly had to be a half ass vehicle mechanic trucking 15 -20 yrs ago!!

They can be frustrating at times. But the TBI trucks are at least 28 years old by now. They are bound to need some TLC from time to time. There have been times where my ‘92 would just be problematic, other times where it’s been trouble free.
