A buddy of mine was talking about a kit car that uses everything off a Chevy Cobalt or pontiac G5. It weighs 1,600 lbs when done, and is like a street legal go cart. The engine and transaxle are mounted in the back. A stock 2.2 ecotec is 150hp. Theres guys putting the Chevy Cobalt SS 250hp supercharged 5 speed setup in them. I imagine its insanely quick. An absolute riot. It's like an Ariel Atom but on a budget. Look up "DF Kit Car Goblin". I'd love to build one. Looking on copart auctions to gage a donor price. These donor cars are dirt cheap. Smacked in the front or side an ecotec 2.2 cobalt sedan is averaging a few hundred. The frame comes welded together and set up your your donor drivetrain. They advertise no welding, no drilling, no cutting. Takes about 100 hours to assemble one. heres some pix

When I say everything, I mean everything. Steering column, rack n pinion, engine, trans, struts, LCAs, brakes, CV axles, engine mount cradle, shifter, gage cluster, seats, wiring, EPAS, master cylinder , brake booster, all the pedals, park brake handle, even rear spindles are repurposed to use in the front. Only thing left of the cobalt you dont use is the body shell with rear axle beam, rear drum brake hardware, interior plastics, back seat, and window glass. You can resell some of the pieces, or run the whole mess across the scales at the scrap yard.

My Crap pile 2008 HHR is essentially a cobalt. I need to look through my friends Hollander interchange book to see what interchanges between an HHR and a cobalt. It might make more sense to use what I have, and then buy the little bits that dont interchange. Mine is a 2.2 NA 5 speed.

They said it's pretty balanced. The ecotec blocks are aluminum with steel sleeves. I think using a cobalt SS supercharged 5 speed setup would be right at the edge, but theres a video on youtube where a guy turbo and intercooled one and it was making over 400hp. Was running 130+ mph in the quarter mile.

"Oversteer is best, because you don't see the tree that kills you."

- Richard Hammond on oversteer vs understeer
Understeer is when you hit the wall with your front end.
Oversteer is when you hit the wall with your rear end.
Horsepower is how hard you hit the wall.
Torque is how far you move the wall.
