Yeah, but each vehicle is getting half as many miles. Your truck will depreciate slower.

Please don't go slower than the speed limit. I don't need people running into the back of me when I get stuck behind you.
Speed limits 55 , depending where your at. If your smart just go around. You don't have to stay in the right lane .

55 in the cruising lane (unintentionally called the slow lane most times) in a 65 or 70+ posted speed zone CAN AND WILL cause accidents and harm to others. If you cant or dont want to keep up with the posted speed then take another road.

I've been trapped by traffic before, stuck behind someone going less than the speed limit. They either have a righteous attitude or a broken vehicle and don't care about the closing speed of the cars behind. Stuck behind them, I see cars approaching from behind at stupid-fast speeds, but can't get over because everybody else is diving for the left lane. It's really dangerous.

1955-1986 version

This is the Vortec one.
the non-vortec intake was sold out so i ended up pulling the trigger on the vortec unit. it seems most of the aftermarket heads have dual intake patterns anyway. i can't even buy a vortec carb intake for what this cost. the fuel rails are on back order at the moment but i don't think it would be the end of the world if i got these made locally. probably a better idea if holley is starting to discontinue this stuff anyway. even if i just shelf this I'm sure it would be an easy sale locally.

I would shelf it. Holley is starting to discontinue small block stuff left and right due to emissions tampering laws. A TBI unit works great as an air valve and flows much better with the injector pod out of it. The old Edelbrock MPFI conversions worked very well considering they were basically a Torquer 2 low rise single plane manifold.
Ya that MPFI intake was alot better than the 3704 they sell.

I had a big hunk of fuel points to use today(or lose since it's the end of the month) so I decided to fill up the crew cab with 89 octane mid grade instead of the 87 I usually run in my trucks. We'll see if I get any better mileage.....

Yeah I agree your right, as long as your driving the posted speed limit and not impeding traffic. Trust me that happens to me all the time being a truck driver carrying 80k lbs of freight you can't stop on a dime it takes a football field. That's why you look for a way out and drive more defensively.

I've noticed a slight increase in mpg and performance with mid grade. Haven't crunched any numbers yet

Accelerating slow has never saved any fuel for me. In fact it is just the opposite. Give the pedal a good 1/3-1/2 throttle shove and keep it open until you are up to cruising speed. The engine is most efficient accelerating a vehicle near its peak torque rpm. I am not saying stand on the go pedal, but give it enough throttle to couple the torque converter well, get it through the lower gears and into overdrive quickly and get it into lockup as soon as possible. You will actually burn more fuel starting off slowly by staying in the lower gears longer while the torque converter slips away wasting fuel.
You’re aboit the only person that says that. I’m not saying accelerate at the pace of molasses in January. Rabbit starts as you describe are proven to be worse for gas mileage. Your MOG suffers most at street driving which is where slow smooth acceleration is how you get better mpg.
You’re not locking the tc on streets anyway as you’re not going fast enough at a steady enough speed for long wnoigh time to benefit from the tc lock up.

tc lockup is great for log steady drive at freeway speeds. Accelerating on a freeway on ramp will get you to speed faster but it’s not gonna return better mog.
