I've had to engage 4WD a couple times to get unstuck when towing and was glad I had it. I think it had something to do with not having a weight distribution hitch, but I had some moments towing my "race" car trailer that I could not get going on loose gravel or steep wet roads (leaving the paddock at COTA).

Roscoe dodged a bullet yesterday. A running, driving '99 CCSB 3/4 ton with a 454 popped up nearby for $5700 obo. I got permission from my wife and messaged the guy. By the time he messaged me back, he'd sold it. I wouldn't have hesitated to ditch Roscoe for a crew cab tow pig.

...but I missed it. Back to work.
Not surprised that truck sold that fast, that was a great price unless it was a total POS. That's only $800 more than I paid for Rawhide!

It's been a while since I've done anything on Roscoe. I went out yesterday with the intent to wire brush off the Rustoleum around the rear window frame and start work with 2K epoxy primer, filler, and paint. As soon as I hit my weld with the wire wheel holes appeared. Crap. We've been in a burn ban for about a month now, so I can't weld outside. Doh!

Instead I started sanding the roof for the paint. I got about one square foot sanded and the pad on my d/a sander disintegrated. Doh!

So I did yard work instead. I did go into the garage and welded the exhaust back together for my son's truck. Last night I took my wife out to dinner and on the way home we stopped at Harbor Freight where I got a couple of sanding pads. It should rain this week, and hopefully afterwards I can do some welding.

Roscoe dodged another bullet. I spotted a 2007 C3500 extended cab with a service bed on a local city auction. It said it ran and drive and the engine and transmission (6.0/6L80) conditions were good, but it did have 287k miles, a check engine light and not a lot of pictures. I bid $2700 (about $3000 out the door), and had the high bid until the last hour. It went for $4100 (about $4500). It's probably worth every bit of $5000, but I want a good deal, so I'll keep plugging away on Roscoe.

I got back on Roscoe last weekend. I went to sand the top and found out the replacement pads I bought for my DA sander are "hook and loop" pads, while all my discs are the old stickum style. It worked well enough to get it done.

I got the welds knocked down, sanded all the surface rust that has appeared in the last couple months, washed it, wiped it down with mineral spirits, and then laid the SprayMax 2K black epoxy primer down. I got all the necessary areas primered pretty well, but I ran out of primer before I got the whole roof done, so I had to order more primer, and it should be here today.

After the primer I got the SprayMax 2K epoxy spray-filler out and went to town on all the roughness around the welds. It's not as effective as I'd hoped - it's more "thick paint" than it is "spray filler".

Once I get my hands on the new can of primer I'll work on smoothing things out a bit and finishing the priming job. Once that's done I'll crack open the can of gloss black and shoot it.
