Then again, a Suburban with rear heat uses the same restricted quick disconnect as my regular cab. I was just curious, that’s all. I’m sure the one I got is fine, the restriction looks about the same.

I do not see the need for a restriction at all. A restriction is just going to allow the core to plug up over time and the core to not get as hot as it could. Very few GM vehicles use any form of a restriction. I used the unrestricted van fitting from the 99 van I parted out on my 99 Tahoe with zero issues.

weird that it's used on the 97-2002 express 1 ton vans only. i have seen this restricted fitting lots. have worked on dozens of 80s B and G-bodies over the years (and owned some too) and definitely seen it on those model lines. also, the LT1 uses a restrictor to the heater core (at least on the B-bodies). like i mentioned previously it's definitely used on the 80s squarebodies too

My 83, 87, 92 and 94 G10/G20 vans were un-restricted. My heat only 1980 C10 was un-restricted. My TPI F-car was un-restricted. Both 8100 vortecs were un-restricted but both were 01-02 van engines. My 87 S15 Jimmy as also un-restricted with the 2.8L, the heater got its coolant off a large pipe threaded into the intake manifold in a jacket surrounding the TBI flange. When you have the coolant return port in the radiator and the coolant is still low while filling the system with the engine running, the coolant flowing from the return hose port looks like a garden hose at full blast where the restricted ones trickle coolant.

yes very weird that GM restricted some and not others. I only used the restricted fitting because that's what was there originally. They must have done it for a reason? while i am fairly new to owning a gen2 sbc, the b-body guys sware it MUST have the restrictor (which is plastic and breaks) but how many taxi cabs do you think bypassed it and drove on it for 100,000+ miles???

Probably every last one of them. The old Fleetwood I had, that garbage hit the trash can when it split apart.

My 2007 G35 sedan had one as well a bleeder port that were both failure prone plastic. Both went into the trash can. The only way you can bleed those VQ V6s is with the nose of the vehicle a couple feet off the ground anyway, so no need for that bleeder.

I had the auxiliary heater pump fail on the 2011 Pathfinder last summer. I had to park the front wheels on a tall curb in front of the local Oreilly and hook up a Lisle bleeder funnel to first the radiator and then to the pressurized reservoir to get all the air out of the system.

I just put a regular hose barb on my 454 when I deleted the QD. I also did a new heater core though. I will say this, everytime I start the truck the heater core burps an gurgles now. Maybe that's why the restrict them, so you don't hear that...

I had a regular hose barb on my 350 in the '94 C2500LD, and the heater core gurgled. A while later I noticed coolant trickling down the front of the driver side head from a failed intake gasket. Once fixed, no more gurgle..

Shouldn't be any gurgling in there unless there's air in the system.

I picked up one of these for my truck. I’m going to compare it to the original and I’ll post photos here. Should arrive by Friday or Saturday.
Which one?
Acdelco 15-33220, 15-33220 or the
