Unfortunately I broke the drivers side mirror today backing out of my garage. Can the mirror be replaced? That appears to be the only thing broken. It is a 1989 Silverado.

Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

The glass should be available at your local parts store....

stay away from the cheap complete mirror set assemblies. after a while of being out in the sun the clear coat wears out and its all flat. if you do get a complete mirror assembly, throw some clear coat on it so it can hold up. 2nd problem with the cheap aftermarket assemblies is that the mirror rattles at high speeds, oem never did that. just my $0.02

Thank you for the link!!! I appreciate your help.
I thought they would have something. A few years ago, the driver's side mirror got whacked on my Burb, and when I put the plate that the glass is attached to back in, it didn't fit quite right. Had it taped in place with AC aluminum duct tape for a few months. Then it got whacked again, this time busting the glass all up. I looked at RA on the way home from the show we were at, that evening, and ordered a new glass and backing plate. It was $40+ shipping, and I had it in a week. Prolly a lil more now(this was in 2019). The only thing I didn't like about the replacement was the OEM style has more tabs to fit into the mount on the power motor, than the aftermarket one does. But it snapped right into place, and has stayed put for several years now. I kept the old one; a couple of tabs are missing, but a new glass and it'll be a good spare for whenever I need it.

If you have the manual mirrors on your truck, the installation is even simpler, because there's fewer moving parts than on the power mirrors!

You're welcome!

Make sure you measure yours and study the part descriptions to get the correct replacement, there are a few different sizes and styles of glass listed there.

If you really want to be fancy, it looks like GM still makes factory replacement glass for your style of mirror. Part numbers 15635577 (driver's side) and 15635578 (passenger side).

I couldn't tell which was which from the descriptions there, but I cross referenced those parts on Negima and found the driver/passenger notations in their descriptions.

I will measure carefully and get my auto mechanics shop instructor to help me choose the right part. We are on summer break now for two weeks and then our summer classes begin.
