Well it's time to get the seam ripper out to open the taped bundle, and remove the bundle away from firewall. Get the soldering iron and shrink tube.
Don't rush it, do it right the first time.
In Aviation we have these devices we can attach to drill bits so it drills just past the metal. Preventing the whole bit blowing through chewing up what you thought " no problem It'll clear that fuel line".

Sometimes, for a one or two times usage, Dad would use a piece of metal fuel line, bigger than the bit he was using, cut to length needed, for a drill stop. There's lots of ways to handle this, a small block of wood can be used too.

I do plan to fix it, as my dash is cracking (ive already replaced the dash once) so it needs to come out anyway. I just find it strange that even with the damage, i have yet to find a problem that it has caused. I drive this truck 2-300 miles per week.
