I am part way thru this project. The bed attachment brackets do need to be modified! Simple job with a 4-1/2" side grinder. The bolts on the drivers' side are a real ***** to install because the frame is so close to the gas tank. I so far have 3 of the 4 bolts in and don't know how I am going to get the last one. Probably have to drop the tank. The air chisel is definitely your friend!
Hangers are not a fun job. I don’t remember how but I didn’t have to drop the tank for that last bolt. Long bed might be different.

Yeah, hangers suck. Flip kit and be done.
It's not just all the torture one goes through installing hangers, then you quickly decide it's not low enough and find you get to un-do all that crap, wasted time, effort, and money on the hangers, hoping you didn't destroy or junk the originals so you can put them back on, just to flip it and get the drop you want. The kinds of things people just don't get when we tell them "you're better off just flipping it."

Yes. Wish I had been on the forum before I did mine.

Now I’m looking at doing a flip kit with a big notch and LIFT shackles, cause I AM NOT swapping stock hangers back in
I say flip it and see how you end up, see if you can come up with a drop amount that works for you without having to dive back into the hangers.

Mind you I haven't been in this position so it's just a wild guess - I would imagine drop hangers and lift shackles will have your pinion angle out of whack. If you go with a flip kit that is "adjustable" (DJM) I suppose you could work around it. Not a fan of that flip kit though.

Fer sure. I’m just not sure if an 8” static drop is drivable. Regardless of frame/bed modifications. I don’t know that I’ve seen an 8” rear drop on a gmt400.

I hate double work and I hate waisting money. If I do the flip kit in the back, I’ve got the stock shackles to out back in. But then I’ll have to figure out if I can put bags in the 3” drop lower control arms I’ve got in the front.

I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. There’s plenty of examples of bags on stock arms with 2” drop spindles.

I just don’t know. And I’m not in an area that has an air suspension community, or lowered suspension for that matter so it’s not like I could buy everything, try it then resell it if it doesn’t work.

An 8"rear drop would probably drag the fuel tank, but other than that you'd be good.
