Digging in to my L31 I pulled, 198k miles and by the looks of the bolts coming out, never been out of the truck before and the power steering pump appears to be original. Fluid was brown and overdue, no particular noises when running.

Something was leaking in the power steering area, originally I thought it was the pump for sure, but there isn't a lot of sling behind the pulley or the hanger assembly:

PS return line crimp appears to be factory and probably leaky. Are the oil cooler lines known to get leaky? Was it just the valve cover gasket because the driver's side is miserable to replace on the truck? Is it definitely timing cover / oil pan and I need to go further in than I intended? What all would you recommend replacing?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Oil cooler lines are notoriously leaky. I would suspect that's the culprit. In my experience, power steering lines usually leak on the steering gear side rather than the pump side, but anything is possible.

While you have the pump off, read into the EVO failures, and decide if you want to tackle the delete while you have it apart.

Thanks for the heads up, I had no idea what that was. I'll be deleting it for sure because I'm not using the factory ecm.

In the second pic one of the hoes looks like it has a worm clamp on it. That may be the one. Was the line leaking ever before?
Unsure, this came out of the parts truck I bought. I've decided to replace both oil cooler and PS lines and hope that does it. Also got myself the EVO delete tubalator, $28 on ebay. I figure if the OEM unit is made in China then there's probably exactly one manufacturer.
