I've been looking at different brackets to mount my stock A/C compressor onto the 5.3. I almost drove myself crazy looking and gave up! haha Looked again and found NiceCNC. It looked like well thought out stuff so inquired about brackets to also mount the alternator and PS pump. I got a reply back along with a photo of the setup. It looks good and I like the belt wrap unlike some systems. There is an Ebay vendor that has excellent pricing and a good rating so will order from him.

Is there an additional bracket that attaches to the back of the R4 compressor to stabilize it? I see the one in the front, pictured.

IIRC through 1995 GM used a small bracket, that bolts to the rear of the R4 and attaches to a stud on the intake manifold on the 4.3L V6 and 5.xL V8s, to stabilize the compressor and / or manage the stresses on that front, one-piece (cast pot metal?) compressor bracket.

Perhaps it was only necessary because of some concern for the front bracket they used.

I think one of the smaller pieces attaches to the back of the compressor. In any case I'd feel a lot better about a solid "billet" (hate that word) piece over a cast aluminum piece. My truck does not have anything on the back side of the compressor to help support it. It may have been tossed at some point in it's life. In fact there are only two bolts holding the compressor to the bracket! There should be three.

Ken, I used the "billet" pieces from Chap (also on ebay). They're supposedly made in the U.S., if that matters to you. Here's some pic's of them mounted on my LS that's going intp my '89 Cheyenne, when it gets a little warmer
