that looks like the right plate, but i would try and get them locally first. also, don't let me talk you out of not replacing all the clutches and steels. it can be hard to determine if clutches are good or not just by a photo. I don't want to be the guy that told you to reuse then then it doesn't work in a few weeks. if it was my own personal trans and the clutches weren't burnt and the steels weren't Leppard spotted or burnt I'd more than likely reuse them.

I updated my shopping list one more time.

Shopping list.

The changes I made;
I switched to a seal kit whitout clutch packs but has the molded pistons included in the kit.
Added the BORG-WARNER 34036KIT,
I already ordered the .077 3-4 plates and will reuse the rest of the existing steels whit the BW 34036KIT.
I think this is a good compromise.

Please let me know if this is good enough so I can put the order in, and can start working on it this weekend.
Thank you.

PS; should I buy this piston as well? https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=431006&cc=1304952&pt=17868&jsn=20401

I would not reuse the steels from your burnt 3-4 clutch pack! plus they were the wrong thickness anyway...

is your piston not in good shape?

The piston looks ok.
I won't use the 3-4 steels. I already ordered the .077 ones.

I was thinking reusing just the steels from the other clutches.

oh sorry, misunderstood.... yes as long as the steels arent burnt or "leppard spotted" you should be ok but just remember if the steels are glazed or burnt the clutches cant do their job. if the piston isnt damaged, put new seals on and reuse.

It's been a while... I was working on rebuilding the transmission on my spare time, having the holidays didn't help, but its finally done!

I just want to shout out a big Thank you to Tayto!!! and of course everyone else here.

He guided me trough the process and helped me whit all my *** questions.
His knowledge was invaluable!
He is a great guy and very knowledgeable.

I put the Tranny in last Saturday, it took me over 12h from start to finish.
It runs, shift, and doesn't leak.
I'm very happy.

Thanks everyone!

Just wanted to update this thread as I have put in over 3k on the car since the rebuild.

I just recently changed the ATF and filter.
I opened the filter and found some metal shavings, I hope this is normal after a rebuild?

Otherwise the transmission is running strong no problems. :rockit:

BTW, did anyone install a drain plug on their transmission pan? It's a real nasty messy job to drain the pan.

Not if you're doing it right...

...via the disconnected cooler tube, directed into a drain pan, with the engine running until the fluid sputters. Shut off engine, pan will be nearly empty.

Thirty years ago I installed drain plugs. Now I don't bother, 'cause the cooler tube is going to be disconnected to flush the fluid anyway.
