Man, this car is super well done. Looks like everything is OEM or OEM+ in the build.

I'll definitely have to check it out, sometime!!

Appreciate it! That barley pop offer still stands.

I have wanted a drop top 3rd gen since I first saw an 87 IROC with the top down. They look sooooooo good.

It's like these cars were designed to be 'verts. The perfect wedge shape!

My roommate in college got a big insurance settlement and bought an IROC Z (305). I drove it a lot because I was his DD most of the time. It was fun, but it couldn't hang with the Fox 5.0. He eventually wrecked it, see the part about me being the DD a lot.

My experiences with the 5.0s was much different. So much so, that a guy from out of state came to find me in his '92 GT with all the "Cobra" goodies (GT40 heads, E303 cam, intake, etc.). I put 3 cars on him, and that was with the stock L98(245hp), granted 350ci vs 305ci, but even the LB9 305s were 215hp in the IROC-Z cars, and 230hp with the G92 dual cats and 5 speed. The foxbody 5.0's always sounded better from the factory though.

When I was in college a friend had an '80ish Camaro. He was getting walked by everyone, so he rebuilt the engine with a bigger cam, better heads, headers, higher compression, the works. It didn't help. He finally rolled the 305 into a dumpster and dropped a 383 in. He was much happier.

I would imagine he went from hating the engine to hating the transmission at that point :Big Laugh:

Headliner is in and done. A-pillar trim gave me some trouble going back in. All is well in the world now, however.

I'm very pleased with the color match. It was worth the effort!

C5 Corvette brakes are a cheap upgrade to that as well.

They don't play well with my factory 16" wheels, however, they'll work with the ZR1 wheels for sure. I want to be able to put the car back to a stock look whenever.

Time to pick back up on this thread I guess.

Operation "More Whoa" is in full effect. All necessary parts to upgrade the front brakes have been ordered. It snowballed a bit, but everying other than the spindles and struts(which only have around 1500miles on them) will be new up front. Also decided to put in some tubular lower A-Arms instead of rebushing the factory stamped stuff. Ordered the hubs and brackets from bigbrakeupgrade.com, and picked up the other parts where they were priced the best: new calipers, rotors, stainless hoses, pads, bearings, seals, etc.

Also, I finally got some good info on the steering gear, learned how to do the correct adjustments to take the slop out of the box. Most people point you towards the adjustment set screw above the pitman arm, but this just tightens up the return to center portion of the box. In fact you need to losen the "jamb nut" on the front of the box where the steering shaft connects and turn, with a spanner wrench, the adjustment "nut" in front of the bearing. At this point, I think I can adjust the box properly and save a rebuild...this is a cost savings of $400-$450...awesome.

While staring under the car creating a plan of attack, I decided the front half of the exhaust needed rebuilt. It was the first system I ever made from scratch and didn't have a very good mig welder back then. I have all the tubing, just needed to order new ball and socket collector extensions, some 02 bungs, a couple of V-bands, and a new Flowmaster merge. I'm going to add a resonator in the I-pipe and see if that makes the exhaust note sound the way I want. If not the rear half will get an update as well.

Still waivering on the C4 ZR1 wheels, it would make tire selection much better, but I LOVE the factory wheels. So I may just find another set of front offsets for the rear in white and shod them in new rubber and go.

ZR1's with new rubber and the necessary spacers will be around $1500ish all in....seems like money that could go elsewhere and be better spent.

No big brakes? On that box, you'll know when the bearing is too tight. It'll suck coming off center, won't want to move anywhere without excessive force, and won't return to center in its own. It won't get stuck though, and you'll probably be disappointed when it's tight. How about a rag joint eliminator? Do they use the same as the 4th gen? If so, Unbalanced Engineering makes a piece for you. Supposedly they fit our trucks too.
