Mine were still ok. I did have an hour setback during engine install. I had separated the mounts during removal, during engine install I needed pull the frame side mounts and bolt the two half’s together and then bolt frame sides as it settled into the bellhousing and frame. The frame side bolts were a bit of pia to wrench going back together.

Any recommendations on a L29 water pump? Anything better than the average Advance auto iron pump?

I sourced a lot of my parts on Amazon, two day delivery and free returns. Got a new ACDelco Professional water pump for $25. it was discounted because the box was slightly damaged at the warehouse, no issues with the pump.

Most of the new pumps come from China. The Gates I bought lasted a year or two before the seal went bad. I've got an Airtech now and it's okay, but I've hardly driven the truck. I have not tried GMB yet, but may end up doing so for my Buick Lesabre.

If you've still got the original pump, or even a GM casting you might consider sending it to one of the water pump shops online and getting it rebuilt.

That's an idea. What does that cost? There are aftermarket pumps like the Weiand aluminum for $150, but I need to measure the stock one to see if it will work, plus confirm that it is reverse rotation.

It's been awhile since I've looked, but north of $100.....expensive compared to new but probably lasts a lot longer.

I went through 2 duralast pumps from autozone that have failed in exactly the same way immediately after install, weeping THROUGH the casting once at temp.

Obviously, avoid with extreme prejudice.
