I say go for it. You've got vehicles that you can drive while searching, so you can take your time. I would think it a good idea to expand your candidates a little wider, Though. I wasn't looking for a Volvo when I bought my 850..... I don't see why you couldn't be happy with a 4x4. They can be lowered, although maybe not as low as what you plan for a 2wd. I think the 4L80e would also be a good idea.
They definitely can't be lowered as much/easily as a RWD, and I just literally have no use for 4WD.

I feel like I've owned enough GMT400's to know what I really like and don't like about various models/options/years... Then I see a halfway decent deal or a nice looking truck outside of my scope and start to think about compromising on this, or that, and... ugh.. end up with something I don't really want.

You could always get a Ford, and swap in a 6.5L diesel :jester:
o_O
It would be an improvement in reliability.. but it would still be a Ford.

Helping you with those farcebook memories. You know dang well that NONE OF US will try to talk you out of it!
Friggin' archivist!!! :D

Man, going back over that post was a walk down all the work I'd done on that truck (and that's not even the complete list) converting it from a mostly stock one-owner rig that was kind of beat when I got it in early 2007.

I can't fully remember what my thought process was back then when I couldn't decide whether to let it go or sell it, but what pushed me over the edge is an old friend started asking about it and immediately agreed to my asking price, flew down and bought it before I could change my mind.

I had already picked up the 2006 Magnum SRT8 for my wife and her POS Explorer was still sitting out front for sale, the 1997 Suburban was still out front for sale, and I had my previous 2006 300C SRT8 (the one I sold to my buddy that he later crashed.) Four vehicles on the insurance policy was killing me (didn't bother keeping any on the Explorer as it was near worthless and not being driven) so it must've been whatever went first, was gonna go, no matter what.

WTH is it about a 400? My wife has her own Silverado SS and still misses "the old black truck" (it's what she drove for half a year or so between us retiring the Exploder and me picking up the Magnum) ... I've had my SS for all this time and I still miss the damn thing, too.

EDIT - this pic.. jeezus. I forgot these days. I'd work all night long, then come home and tear into the black truck. I had the black '94 ECSB, white '92 ECLB, blue '94 Suburban, and green '98 crew dually all at the same time then. This was just prior to getting my shop - working out of a small 2 car garage.

I'm voting for a C2500 Suburban with a 350.

...but you won't.
You're right. Each time I found a C2500 'Burb with a 350 I kept on moving. 454 or nothing. I'd guess a C2500 would have better gearing but IMO a 350 still isn't enough for that heavy of a vehicle. Strangely, I've had several sellers fail to be able to tell me what engine is in their truck, either they're just that clueless or they're afraid to tell me? If they'd had a valid plate in the pic I could just run that and get the VIN, but.. anyway. One of them told me the truck had a "5.3 great moter" ...

Is the intimidator a AWD or RWD? I had a 2003 SS and I loved that truck so much I would love to have another one but drivng 90 miles a day for work wouldn't be economical. If you don't love a vehicle let it go.
Intimidators are 2006 only and by then the SS was RWD only. (2005 began the option of RWD or AWD.) I do put over a couple hundred miles a week on it; it does get a little pricey filling it up every week but I guess I've never owned anything that one could call fuel-efficient. It's a great truck and there's a lot of things I really do like about it - the power level is just right for a daily IMO, it's comfortable, it looks great, etc. but I still miss my 400.

Fair enough. I tend to drive vehicles for a long time, so I haven't owned as many, so the adventure/exploration side of a new vehicle is exciting for me, I guess.

My adventures have included a couple of '68 Coupe de Villes, a couple of classic BMW 6-series - '78 633csi and '83 635csi, a couple of C3 Corvettes - the beater '80 and the sweet '69, an '86 Jaguar XJS with a Chevy 350, a bagged squarebody '89 Suburban after I told myself I was through with squarebodies and hated them, etc. And my adventures also led me into modern Mopar stuff which has proven pretty fun so far, but I highly recommend going straight to the SRT8 models on those!

My first trucks, and ones I owned a lot of, were the 60-66 Chevy's and IMO those were the best trucks GM ever made. Tough as nails and great looking. I drove them everywhere for years and years. However, as a daily driver today, you'd have to sink a small fortune into one and then be afraid to park it anywhere for fear of being stolen. (which is sort of the same boat I'm in with the Redneckinator)

Definitely sell the SS since it’s just ok for you why wait any longer to be happy everyday while driving? Now your spending amount may be a little low unless you don’t mind repairing quite a bit but put adds out or the moment you see one out an about get drivers info to see if you can buy it? But it takes a little bit of time to find what’s worth while now in looking for a vehicle let alone anything else! But good luck your way to find the right one!
