I'll second 454's comments. Never seen a hose clamp fail like that.

What kind of timber are you cutting?

Right now, whatever we can get our hands on. We have some for, pine, oak, alder, poplar, we’ve been collecting logs for a while now. Going to see if I can turn any of it into cash….

To that hose clamp, yeah I’ve never seen that before either. It’s what was on the rig when I got it… but last time tightening it I do recall it felt kind of strange.

And man those spring clamp tools are expensive!

Truck is back together, and -appears- to be done needing any more attention to the cooling system. Let’s hope anyways…

While I was warming it up and putting coolant back in, I got a flashing SES with a #4 misfires.. but it self cleared and when I drove it home, it was on absolutely best behavior. It drove super nice actually. I have no good theories at this point, only hypotheses as to the problem. Is it spark? Fuel? Evil etheric entities dancing inside the distributor cap?

Still think I’ll swap back to the oem distributor, still know I need new injectors.. so I’m working towards those ends.

How’d milling go?
Pretty good for knowing absolutely nothing about what I’m doing. We had a couple fir logs set aside that w were just got kind of testing and learning. Ended up with a nice pile of 1x10s we are going to use as board and baton siding on a little out building.

More to come for sure on milling stuff.

Meanwhile, about to pull the trigger on some Anzo headlights.

Man it’s been a battle with this thing. Pulled the distributor to see what’s up with my misfires, struggling to get it back in and timed correctly, I think I’m off a tooth, but ran out of time… getting tired of cramming my head in the back of this thing… should just take the hood off.

But since it was dry out decided to get my Wideband bung installed. Weld looks like crap but I think it should be leak free. Obviously need it running to test.

At this point if I don’t find time in the afternoon this week after work, it’ll be towards the end of February before I get this thing back on the road. Luckily I don’t need it, but it’s been a fight..!

Oh PSA got the day, don’t let weld splatter fall on your cell phone screen….

Don’t know if these pics will help you, I took them with the upper plenum off. with #1 at tdc the rotor was right in line with the rear fuel rail bolt hole, the dizzy cap screw hole on the corner of #8 intake port. Got the oil pump shaft oriented with the dizzy shaft and started rotating in the dizzy at 3 o’clock. This got me within 6 degrees.

That is a huge help, yes thanks!! I was looking through my pics from when I did the original swap but can’t find anything useful.

Got the water pump out, reinstalled, put everything back together... yeah the water pump has a crack in it. That's why it's leaking. Not my sealant job.
Out of time to pull it back out plus it's ripping hot....
Limited lifetime warranty... great..... doesn't pull it back out and reinstall it for me.

Wonder if they will comp me 3 gallons of coolant....
Between the cracked center support, cracked frame, cracked water pump, cracked bolts, hose clamp....this things got more cracks than a _________....you can fill in the rest, lol.

Thanks for sharing!

One step forward one step back…..

So my distributor was 180* off. I theorized this might have happened, while I was fighting with the oil pump drive I spun the motor around and must have lost count. So not surprised after I thought about it. Truck starts now, but I can’t get the cmp better than 7*. I think I need to move 1 tooth. But I am closer and it’s running again.

But guess what I find while I’m messing with the distributor adjustment.

Yeah coolant is leaking from somewhere up front… spent some time looking around and of course can’t find it until it reaches operating temp…

I’ll give you 3 guesses what it was but you’ll only need one-

Not a great pic, but same exact problem the last water pump had, weeping coolant through ****** casting once it reaches temp :flame::flame::flame:

I don't hardly bother with AutoZone parts anymore; if it's an in-store "brand" it's NAPA or bust.
Pretty cool of them to honor the warranty and comp the coolant, I doubt my AZ would do that.

I’m going to return this POS duralast and get my money back hopefully…. Then get maybe a UMP or ACD gold from rock auto.

NAPA ftw. Or maybe DUI from Summit? I've got a Davis Unified Ignition coil and ICM and I can definitely tell a difference in throttle response. I was planning on getting one of their Dizzys but I have an Accel billet shaft laying in my parts pile.

What a rodeo this truck has been. Like breaking a wild horse I guess but once I get there we’ll be friends for life.

Literally blew up my 4th water pump and took the radiator with it. I think it’s the fan clutch at the root, as weird as that sounds to me still.

Here’s the thread on that saga if you care https://www.gmt400.com/threads/vortec-7-4-keeps-blowing-up-water-pumps.60836/
