Octane booster is really only for getting 91 octane to play well with a 12:1 motor. It's not a cleaner. There aren't too many "magic in a bottle" products that do what they say.

I only use it in my 1968 429 T-Bird when I advance the timing up to 20-22* initial. That engine has 10.5:1 compression also. If I drop initial timing down to 18* or lower it doesnt need it. Factory calls for 10* but it really wakes up and likes to run better at higher timing.

In anything else its a waste of money.

WHAT PRODUCT are you asking about? LINK?

"Most" octane boosters are so ineffective that they advertise the product based on raising the octane rating by "points".

What that means is the product is so useless that it won't raise the octane rating by a full "number"--from 89 to 90, for example. They raise the octane rating from 89 to 89 POINT 4 (89.4, four "points") or something worthless like that.

And given that typical store-bought octane boosters typically have a high proportion of alcohol, they have some minor cleaning effect. Less than E10, probably way less than Top Tier E10 that has additional detergents beyond what's required by the EPA.

Naptha was used in dry-cleaning. Maybe still is. Naptha is a potential ingredient in octane boosters, as are Toluene, Xylene, MTBE, etc. How much of a cleaning effect they have, I don't know. At least some, I suppose. Of course, you can buy a gallon of Toluene for the cost of a few 12-ounce bottles of commercially-prepared octane booster.

DO NOT get ANY of that shiit on your skin, or your liver and kidneys will jump out at night and run down the street crying. You might grow a third arm out of the middle of your chest; which could be handy for holding parts or swinging wrenches but is generally considered unadvisable.

Naphtha is good in parts washers too.

I’ve used vp brand in my truck when gas station didn’t have 93. It didn’t ping so guess it worked.

This is some good stuff. But if your still on stock compression and stock tune its worthless.
Ive used this in some 13:1 compression LS engines with 93 octane and its pretty impressive. but it turns your oxygen sensors and plugs orangeish brown color.

I add some of the VP to the Nova tank every fill up. Keeps the ping away. I think it's the best one they have there at our local auto parts. That BOOSTER sounds interesting too!

This stuff looks legit from my house, and it works for you...Thanks.

Years back, we used to mix some magic potions and flammable elixirs for our Harley street racing bikes; some of it was decent and worked for what we were running. Now, I tune every bike to run ethanol free 91 from the pump, and power is what it is. Picking the right cam for how they're ridden is important, too. Her engine has always been very sensitive to timing. Especially since she's kick start only with dual plugs and dual coils, and she has a single-fire ignition that can retard or advance the rear cylinder up to 3*. I'm in the process of de-tuning my shovel to run on this gas, and now when I finish her up again, I'll try this stuff and see.

Painting products were good a few decades ago, too. Oh, there's nothing like the lovely scent of lacquer in the morning. Everyone was shooting it back in the day.

Do you race that LS?
