I'm back in a GMT400!

So this truck has been 1/2 mine for about a year. It was supposed to be a work truck for my shop but no one else really liked it. I decided to leave the shop an it became part of my buyout. She is rough around the edges but we are going to get her back into shape.

Alot has been done to it while it belonged to the shop. The FPR replaced, cats an muffler redone, new tires, tow mirrors, plugs/wires, new fuel tank and pump assembly an various other small fixes. It kinda slowed down after all that as finances tightened up an me being the only one who saw the potential in it meant nothing much else got done.

Since I got it I've picked up a bunch of parts, I stripped the interior to have the antenna hole on the roof fixed along with the rust. I was just going to have the roof done but got a good price on an entire paint job so even though it technically has some more pressing issues that should be fixed, we are starting with paint!

This was my main concern on the paint, I didn't want the rust to get any worse. I also got a better hood for it before I took it to the painter. He told me it would be better/cheaper to replace the tailgate an Left fender than repair them. I looked into aftermarket parts but went with some used OE stuff instead. Using this opportunity to get a tailgate banner as well. I know it won't be perfect trying to paint around it but I'm not looking for perfect, just presentable. This thing is currently pretty ugly an I want to knock some of that off it!

Other issues it currently has besides being ugly

1. Way to high. I have most of the parts for a 5/7 drop to fix this issue on hand. Just lacking shock extenders, shocks an a driveline kit to get started on that. Hopefully the front end won't need to many repairs while I'm in there.

2. No air flow from vents/Defrost/floor. It just kind of comes out from everywhere. The flaps are broken out in the hvac box. I have parts to fix that along with a better condition dash. I do want to go ahead an clean the box an replace the heater core, evaporater an other hard to get to parts while the dash is out. I also plan on replacing the rest if the a/c system components as well since I'm not even sure if any of it works.

3. The NV4500 grinds going into 3rd/4th. You will not under any circumstances get a downshift into 3rd. You can get 4th occasionally but never 3rd. Upshifting goes ok depending on how you do it. Ive found if you let the engine return to almost idle it will go in gear with little to no grinding. Not sure if I'm going to tackle that fix myself yet or not. Since a rebuild is 2k+ an I think it only needs syncros an a reseal I might just try it.

4. Left rear brake will lockup under harder stops.

5. The dreaded 7.4l hard restart when warm. Even though the dash only shows 113k miles it probably needs injectors. We were told when we bought it that was the correct mileage but I can't verify it. The truck is in decent shape so I somewhat believe it but it's also kinda rough so at times I'm not sure if that's correct. Either way it doesn't matter, it's what I've got an it's a good solid start to a cool truck imo.

Instead of rebuilding the old NV4500, you might think about swapping it for a newer Tremec TR-4050. They are designed to be a nearly straight swap, have more advanced syncros, making shifting easier, and can take more torque. The swap will undoubtedly cost more than a rebuild, but you get a better transmission in the end.

Check your fuel pressure before you start blaming the injectors for the hard start. I "fixed" my injectors with a new fuel pump.
The fuel pump, sender and gas tank are all new. It did it before the pump died an still does it now.
Welcome back lmao, glad you chose to make a build thread on this one! That damn backrack has followed you around for years lmao
No one wants to buy it, except for less than scrap value lol.
