I currently have a grueling 1/4 mile commute to work and back everyday, so I’ve decided to get an economical mode of transportation to also keep the destructive mileage down on my trucks.

I picked up this 1964 International Cub Cadet 124 for $300. It is all original, powered by a 12hp single cylinder Kohler. 3spd plus reverse manual transmission with a hi-lo “creeper drive”.

I got it fired up after some points filing and fresh gas only to realize that the friction material from the clutch was being flung in a 10’ radius. 6 months later, I have a new clutch assembly, cheap Chinese carb and a new seat so the project can begin!

Found this tractor seat stuck to the top of a clearly home made stool thing, in front of a thrift store for $20! (Iykyk)

There is a cup inside the shift tower that keeps the shifter from spinning in a circle and being floppy. The weld that connects the cup to the shift lever is a common failure so I took it apart and found a damaged liner in my mig gun so my welder won’t feed. Maybe I can get it melted together at work and ill order a new liner.

This is where it sits today. I’ll try to start on the clutch replacement tomorrow or Friday.

This is cool! My parents have 3 vintage cub cadet lawn tractors. Couldn’t tell you the years but similar to yours. One is set up for a snow blower and a plow. They used them religiously up until the mid 2000s when they replaced all 3 for 1 new Simplicity.

I had no idea these had such a huge aftermarket and cult following until after I bought it. Vintage cub cadet people are something else

About 30 years ago I lived with a g/f in the sticks North of Houston and we used one just like that to keep the yard at bay. Real green and wild over there by Caney Creek. Floods every now and then so the area stays damp..

Nice score!

I had no idea the old lawn tractors were so tough until a coworker bought an old Wheel Horse, complete with wheel weights. I started looking for one myself, but I found a John Deere L130 and realized it was plenty for my yard.
