Eaton released the bulletin stating, reminding that this differential is serviced with normal gear lube without a friction modifier. Adding friction modifier would degrade, hinder proper operation. Then they, AAM, GM found out synthetic gear lube attacked the RTV sealant they choose to use in axles for GMT's. Oh well.

And before we started having materials ( sealants, fluids ), started attacking each other, or engineers doing due diligence ensuring compatible products. I was using gear lube that had friction modifier additive blended in the lube bottle already. In positrac ( required) and standard non positrac axle, differentials. For me it just prevented forgetting to add the modifier, or having someone install the wrong lube.

Sure, I can see that. You need it in an actual positrac, and I don't see that it could hurt anything in a regular open differential. Not to belabor the point but it should not be used in the Gov-Loc which is neither a posi nor open.

Clearly, the wally world stuff cannot be used in my 97's G80, but it can be used in my 98's open diff.
I do need to ask... if this is okay in the front diffs.

Checked fluids at Walmart. Valvoline and supertech both have additive.
WHICH "Valvoline" product?

This stuff doesn't have the "posi' additive.

Not the right weight, but the section was really really small. I will need to check a larger store....

I'm curious to check if my FFG80 will lock up. Going to do a quick acceleration and see if it does a 2 wheel peel.
Also going to be servicing the differential later this month.
