TBI trucks came with CS144s too

Isn't it the earlier case design? I think the mounting ears are 180 degrees from each other atleast. If the AD244 can be had in that form, it won't be from the normally recommended vehicles.

what do you mean how to wire it? you use a cs130 to ad244 adapter harness(they have the same 4 wires just different terminals/connector shape)
Or you can cut and install new connector to altm, install charge wire.literally done

Ok here's a couple questions.

1994 K2500 5.7 L
1) I have a single brown wire does this need a resistor added or just run it to the new alt as is?

2) The brown wire goes to the L terminal on the new alt. Is this correct?

3) Sense wire. Should this be hooked up?

4) If using the sense wire do the TBI guys just run that wire to the positive stud on the firewall junction box?

5) If using the sense wire should it be fused?

Thank you.

from factory the brown wire runs directly to the battery light in the dash, so no resistor is needed. the resistor mimics the bulb in the dash. you would need a resistor if you wired the L terminal directly to switched 12v.

sense wire is optional i believe. not needed but can be wired if you want.

They make the CS144 with straight across ears 92ish Caddillac Fleetwoods used them and the 90ish degree ones on the Vortec.

Load management and battery health monitoring was very impressive on 1997-2005 park avenues too, they didtn require any sensors like 2005+ buicks and chevys started doing that BS...
And they were helpful. I Wonder if that van system is similar to what is on my PA
Its all inside the PCM. The alternator F & L terminal goes to the matching spots on the 0411. Look at an 01-02 van or GMT400 truck wiring harness for reference if using an 0411.

Edit, link attached. 2001 8.1L schematic. P59 pinout for this is slightly changed. Mine is wired per this schematic with an 0411, P59 requires a couple pins be moved.

Edit, changed the link, this is the GMT400 8.1L not the GMT800 one.

It was well worth the hour of time it took to make the 0411 and later P59 control the alternator. The charging output management was well worth it.

All the late model GM alternator info you could want.

The early ones are a bit different. Smaller bearings, and I think some of the guts are different too. I was looking this stuff up a little over a year ago when I was putting a new/used alternator in my 69 Electra. I used a 12si that my dad had, in place of the 10dn with a broken casting. I think some of the criticeims I read about the CS144 compared to the AD244 are really the early CS144, not the one I have on my Vortec engine.

that is either more detailed than most normal gm alts in diagrams of the same era or the that alternator has a distinct solid state regulator design , it has a phase wire hookup(Only ones designed to use em wired them internally) which diesels of course loved.
but cool none the less!

They make heat and the rectifiers are also more prone to damage, but its not a guarantee and quality/lucky parts will stilll outlive junk (so much these days)
Ad244 has superior cooling and rectifier
