I hadn't seen what LT did, guess I need to watch

If I could find a Whipple I would absolutely throw it on my current motor, intercooled and everything.

I watched a lot of what Richard Holdener has done, it definitely makes me think my meager goals are totally obtainable.
I do have an HX35 I was going to swap on my 6.5L; should it make a slight detour?

Whipples are expensive and don't make much bewst. Dually came with it and I nabbed the 1500 blower for $1000. Barring that I'd just do an eBay turbo setup and make some real power. I contemplate the same swap from time to time on my own boosted trucks. Selling the Whipple would pay for most of it.

Hot idle is just under 35 pounds, verified with a mechanical gauge. Still decent but here recently I've noticed a little bit of cold weather clatter on startups.
3.73s wouldn't be bad if I still had the factory tires, but 285s are all I ever plan on running from here on out. They look too good.
What weight oil are you running? 35 hot idle is good imo. And I can't blame you for not wanting to get away from 285s, next set of tires I buy for mine will be at least 285s.

Hx35 would be much too small for the 454. S475s aren't that expensive if you hunt around lol

If you can weld, factory manifolds flipped up, merged and a t6 flange would be pretty straightforward. If I were to do it again I'd have made it work to have my turbo in the engine bay. Rear mount works but it has some downsides.

As long as tuning is good they'll handle some pretty good power! Richard Holdener needs to finish his big bang tests for the the l29. Last test I saw he was pretty well over 1000 HP on the stock bottom end.

I've had mine to 15 psi with the s475. It feels ridiculously torquey
Have you ever seen the L19 454 TBI short block, ebay aluminum head twin turbo blow through carb setup Car Craft did. They gave up when the spark kept getting blown out. I think it was at about 22-24 psi.

I have not, but I'm going to have to look for it! Any idea what it made for torque? I'm going to guess it was way up there considering how the l19 makes torque.

I want to say it made 1,200-1,300 hp and another 150-200 ft/lbs. The torque number was stupid and it was still an all cast junkyard bottom end. This article was CarCrafts response to HotRods first big bang 4.8L.

Wow, and I thought my 20 was good! I've never put a mechanical guage on it, I'm just looking at the dash gauge.
It used to be 45 hot idle and almost 65-70 pounds cruising; that was a pain to do, I had to string the mechanical gauge up around the back of the intake, out between the cowl and the hood and I ziptied it to the windshield wiper.

I get about 40 cruising hot... a bit higher on the highway. It's basically pegged when cold at startup. It rattles a lot at startup, but I'm not starting it up that much anymore, and I'm assuming the lifters are bleeding all the oil out over the weeks it sits.

I had a worse clatter when I still had dino oil in it, but since I've switched to Amsoil I didn't have any problems for a while, but like I said to Christian, I've noticed the clatter has faintly come back here recently. Don't know if it's because of the cold snap that passed through or just a coincidence,

I suppose I could switch to synthetic, since I'm not running the truck all that much any more. My truck has always used a lot of oil. I still have dino oil on the shelf, Though.
