Personally, I have both on my two Yukons, and I think if I was ever going to buy another GMT400 SUV, it would need to have the liftgate/tailgate. Tailgate gives you more supported space, and you can open just the liftgate and have things sticking out the back. Barn doors are more complicated to leave open and secured, in my opinion.

Barn Doors 1000%.

Much easier to reach into the back when you don't have to first reach across the tailgate. If it's too big to fit inside, put it on a trailer. Leaving the glass up or the tailgate down is just begging for trouble.

One thing I will say in the tailgate's favor; you can climb up on it and get in the back of the truck easier.

The tailgate was a $$ adder when ordered from the factory - something like $400 IIRC.
But, it seems the consensus is for barn doors! And not just from the 3 posts above.

I carry bungy cords to hold them wide open when camping or loading something on a breezy day. Much easier to place heavy things in the back rather than having to move them twice, imho.

I've never seen a 1500 8 lug. Most of these trucks have 5 lug for 1/2 ton, Blazer, Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban and truck. 4wd had 6 lug. I'm sure there are some out there, but I think they are rebadged or something, not factory.

I have seen factory K1500 6.5ltd 8-Lug 'burbs with my own eyes. They do exist, but I don't know the correct RPOs to make it happen.
