I'm a little biased towards the burb. I think the advantages of fuel capacity, seating capacity, and cargo capacity outweigh the cons of an overall larger vehicle. It's what fits my use the best. I do think the ability to get it in a 3/4 ton chassis is also beneficial. I could easily have done with a 1/2 ton but love having the 3/4 ton for my use.

With that said I believe I'm getting about 9 mpg's on a good day with the 454.
Yeah I get 10 in town with my 5.7 CCLB....no way to avoid all traffic and idling. Not in Houston anyway.

Tahoe/Yukon vs Burb:
What do you want to do?

We have a burb because we have three 100+ lb dogs.
We also do house/yard work and can fit a lot of supplies in the back.
If we need to move people, it can be 8 at a time PLUS any gear they may have.

I haven’t even talked about the roof rack yet.

I lean towards a burb.

Good news is the front AC might be fine. When I complained I got a call that the 3 minor complaints I had were addressed the AC being one.

I drove it on a warm day in November and the rear AC was ice cold but front was not cold. May have just needed a recharge.

If you look at the driver side doors just under the door handles you can just make out the paint is chipped.
My brother had noticed it and we could be wrong.

It was a very nice truck and I was in there twice trying to buy it but owner wouldn’t budge on price. I was very surprised when he dropped the price and I received no call.

If your brother does a Google search he may find the Bring A Trailer ad where a dealership bought this out of Oregon. Some nice videos too.

Your brother got it for less than the VW dealership paid for it in May so that’s another win.

If I might what was the final price settled on??? I know what I offered and we were close. When dealership dropped to their last advertised price it was almost at my offer. If you got it a few hundred less than that you did well.

Congratulations and hope your brother enjoys it. I’m glad someone who really wanted got it and I hate to admit it but glad you gave it to that dealership by getting your price.

Thanks for letting me know the rest of the story too

Merry Christmas

Bill

He ended up paying $17,200 - which was the asking price after they dropped it $1100. I thought it was a couple hundred lower but I guess I was wrong.
I have no doubt that he'll keep it pristine! And who knows, with the way square bodies have taken off and the GMT400 pickups... clean burbans might be an alright investment.
Hope you are able to find one that's perfect for you soon. Thanks for being a part of the story of this one!

WOW and I thought the '94 C2500 Suburban I'd found with the 7.4 was priced too high at around $6500? It had some miles (170K IIRC) but looked super clean and was a color combo I was fine with (white exterior/gray cloth interior) but it just seemed to be slightly inflated due to market conditions. The ad disappeared a bit later so I presume it sold.

I don't think I've ever seen an A/C system that "just needs a recharge" that didn't get at least a new o-ring soon after. Look at all the junctions for evidence of compressor oil seeping.

You'd never be able to cart cool stuff like this around with a Tahoe! (this was my "just use a sheet of cardboard" method, before I upgraded to the MDF)

Ahem! Lol.

I wish I took a picture of it. I put a 60 gallon Ingersoll Rand air compressor in the back of my Yukon. Seats were folded down. I had to leave the tailgate down as well. But it got it home. My friend was surprised we didn't bend the tailgate getting it out. That sucker was HEAVY!

BTW, a little different than the original question, but as this only relates to the SUV's, I thought it might be interesting. What is everyone's preference for the back? Regardless of Suburban vs. Tahoe/Yukon. Do you prefer barn doors, or liftgate/tailgate.

Personally, I have both on my two Yukons, and I think if I was ever going to buy another GMT400 SUV, it would need to have the liftgate/tailgate. Tailgate gives you more supported space, and you can open just the liftgate and have things sticking out the back. Barn doors are more complicated to leave open and secured, in my opinion.

On the tailgate/doors question, here's my input. Both of my 400 Burbs have barn doors. Sometimes it would be nice to have the tailgate/lift glass, but not enough to try to change it over! My last square body Burb had the barn doors, and I didn't like how they opened so wide. A few times in crowded parking lots, those doors came really close to getting hit by other cars, or hitting other cars! I much prefer the 400 style on them, where you have more control over how far they open. My other square body Burbs, all 4 of them, had tailgates with the power retractable window. Several times we used the gate as an extension of the load platform; as long as the load was heavy or stiff enough to keep the gate from bouncing, it worked well. Just kinda sketchy, looking at it or riding on it! Those gates are VERY heavy with the window motor, regulator and glass in them; I helped Dad rebuild them on the '79 and '84( these were the ones we drove the most). Loading and unloading the cargo space is easier with the gate, because you have someplace to stage the items/boxes you're taking out or putting in. But I have used the newer trucks with the doors enough, that I have gotten proficiency in loading them too.
So I guess it just depends on how you plan to use the truck....
