I got no idea, but probably the cheapest autozone brand, I then proceeded to replace it with another cheapo autozone one. What brand T-stat?

I bet you can jack up the rear and run it to narrow it right down. I have never heard a sound like that coming from a vehicle. Although I did once have a grinding sound come from the flex plate cover on an 88 pkup I had. The cover was bent during a trans swap. The cover was scraping against the flex plate when on the throttle but quit when let off. (crankshaft fore and aft movement on the high mile 305). Oh and that incident occurred with 6" of ice on the ground. Good luck to you.Terrifying noise indeed. Definitely sounds like some metal on metal, and not happy about it.
Drive it much further and it will be easy to figure out what it isSo believe it or not, I actually made it back to Peoria, but not without a casualty.
xc_hide_links_from_guests_guests_error_hide_mediaAround Lincoln Nebraska, the truck started making this noise. I'm not quite sure what it is, but I'm leaning towards the rear end. I did stop and check the TCase, and it was full. It's only when accelerating. I also put the trans in drive, and the tcase in neutral, and it didn't make a peep.
Whatever it is, I need to fix it by the 2nd when I got to drive home.
