I have one taking up space in my garage, if someone wants it. FREE - just cover shipping please from 80921. Just paying it forward to another forum member, after all the great info I have received from this forum.

I removed the tray for the second battery in my '98 and replaced it with a factory plastic storage box. I believe these are for 96-98 (or 99 if you have a Tahoe or Burb); the 88-95 were metal and a different design. Have the fender bolt and nut underneath, but missing the other side-mount bolt & washer which I assume is easy to source at a hardware store. Tray is a little dusty but it good serviceable condition, no cracks or damage. Just PM me if interested, will take the PMs in order I will update this thread when it is spoken for.

Yes you're correct on the years differences. I've had a couple of these, out of parts trucks at the yards. If your truck was ordered with the second battery (available for the gas truck in addition to being mandatory for the diesel) you didn't get the box, because they occupy the same space.
I was researching stuff after getting Rawhide the crew cab, and apparently the one ton got the box as standard equipment. I had noticed it wasn't on the option list, but the truck has one, and it's an early production '97.

I wonder if the driver's side tray was snatched out of my crew, it didn't have one when I got it. My old 97 Suburban had one, I removed it for an underhood storage box; and my 96 K2500 didn't have anything.

Entirely possible! If these trucks could tell us their stories, I'm sure there'd be all sorts of stuff that'd blow our minds....

I didn't have one either, and I think I even have the snow plow prep package, which I have no idea as to what that might include since I don't have the 140 amp alternator....maybe that triggered heavier bars, but those are called out with thier own RPO.

My truck has over 300K miles, and all of them are mine except the first 6000.

The storage box in my truck is there because I took the one out of my dads old 96 before he sold it for way too little money.

I installed the storage box in my 96 the day after I brought it home, the PO's had some wonky PA speaker and horns in that space.

Car alarm? Some of the old ones basically looked like a cheap plastic PA horn. I think I'd rather use something from Federal Signal, just to play around with :D

Hmmm, that's actually a useful (or entertaining) mod... :rotflmao:

Honestly if it wasn't so hokeypoke looking I may have left them, my CB does have a PA output and I toyed around with putting a small speaker behind my bumper or something.
The car alarm angle is interesting though, I never thought of that, I assumed it was just a PA since the truck had a CB before I bought it.
