Looked a bit for some quality sockets. I have typically bought Ingersoll-Rand impact sockets, but they didn't have any 1/2" drive in 1-1/2" or 38 mm readily available (or available at all). So, I went with a Stanley Proto 38 mm (P/N J7438M) and 1-1/2" (P/N J7448H), both standard length, 6-point, 1/2"-drive, from zoro.com using a 20% off promo code I received in my e-mail earlier this morning. Got both sockets for a total of $49.14 shipped (via UPS Ground). Pretty good deal. Probably arrive later next week.

I did find a photo of the inner threaded sleeve being sold on eBay. It is definitely pressed in.

I told myself I'd leave it alone. Why am I still contemplating pressing it out then? The housing cast doesn't look too strong around it.

And it’s knurled, sheesh idk man. If you can’t get something on the backside to support the case around the sleeve, maybe leave it. That locking tang isn’t broken.

That's it? So if I tell you to send it you'll do just that?
haha, I recognize the risk in trying to press the sleeve out.

On the other hand, if I just send it, and don't measure backlash and preload, there's a risk of damaging the gearset, thus requiring new bearings and a new gearset, maybe even an entire carrier assembly.

I could do nothing to the sleeve, and it won't hurt anything. The locking tab is fine. I just like replacing things if I can and the cost is not prohibitive (it's like $3 for a new locking tab). But, too much risk involved getting the locking tab out.

But, if I do NOT measure preload and backlash, I risk damaging the differential. There's really no good reason for me NOT to measure those. So if course, I will measure them. I won't just send it. There's way too much to risk by just sending it.

He was also right noting the knurled sleeve. That takes a bit more force than non-knurled surface. Sometimes the knurls take some of the metal off as it passes over the surface. Since the case is aluminum, that's a big risk.

Is this the housing for your assembly?
GM 23362369
I cannot verify. I can't find it listed in the GM Parts Giant categories for my VIN, and when I enter my VIN, it says it doesn't fit (usually but not always accurate).
