Since we are on the subject of plastic, I posted on a thread some time back about wedding a mounting bracket to the drivers A pillar and remolding the Pilar trim to add an OH sh… handle to the drivers side… not sure how the plastic is going to take heat.
whats the sheet metal look like? Any gmt 400 1998 or later has to be in compliance with rollover regs, so there may be a change in production on that part of the cab, but I have seen on OBS Fords people use rivnuts and install a brace and then install handles on their a pillar-to-roof-line on the cabs and some heavier people said it works for them

And those trucks didnt need to conform to any roll over specs

The A pillars look the same on both sides. I will def get a closer look at them. My main concern was putting indentations in the plastic so that it looks right, while not messing it up.

Literally no difference in the passenger side A-pillar on the 88-94 and 95-98 GMT400's; I used a 95-up grab handle bracket on a 94 cab. Drilled the welds out of the donor cab's pillar and welded it onto the older cab. A breeze, other than tight working quarters due to 2 of the welds being so close to the windshield. No reason you couldn't use this exact same part on the driver side A-pillar. The only thing stopping you is you'd have to modify the plastic trim to match.

Right! If I get in the mood enough, I will post a thread for it. Thinking test heating a scrap piece of interior plastic to see how it takes heat.

Not sure if this is what you meant by the title of this thread, but here goes. Years ago I modified to fit, recovered to match, and installed an overhead console with working digital compass and temp from a 1986 Chrysler FWD turbo new yorker in my 94 GMT. See pic of overhead console. It has a spot for a garage door opener, and a sunglasses holder, also has built in map lights. Looks factory with the squared off 94 GMT dash. This is not a direct bolt in. It requires a fair bit of work and modification of the console itself, and the truck roof to fit.

A jeep cherokee steering shaft with universal joints instead of the factory rag joint is an almost direct swap into GMT400s from 88-94. Fantastic upgrade for cheap out of the junkyard. I got one in mine. Wont work on 95 up.

The auto dimming mirror with compass and homelink from any KIA car or SUV will direct bolt on, and is 3 wire hook up. You can also find these with compass and auto dimming without homelink. I have been buying mine new from www.kiacheapparts.com , and www.tascaparts.com on closeout new with install kit and instructions for about $15 a piece plus shipping. Theres several different part numbers on these probably because the install kits are meant for different models, but the mirrors are all the same. Try multiple kit part numbers until you find one in stock on closeout.

Not another vehicle make, but I used a modified 50 cal ammo can that I bolted to an aluminum plate, that clamps into a GMT400 diesel battery tray on my 94 for an under hood tool, an oil check rag storage compartment

Anyone know if mirror part #A7062-ADUP1 is a direct swap in? Hard to find info on it, search feature here is less than helpful lol. I've got a compass console in my Cherokee and adding a compass mirror to my truck would be nice.
A thermostat one would be even better, but I've seen the write ups for those and the effort doesn't seem worth the reward to me

The Kia one that's auto dim w compass and no homelink is made by Gentex. They make em for almost everybody. It's only a 2 wire hookup. Ignition hot, and body ground that's it. Then likely you need to do a compass swing in an empty parking lot to calibrate it. That's it. My new yorker one required degaussing the screws "de magnetizing". Then I had to point it magnetic north and set C1, and magnetic south and set C2. Then drive in a circle to verify it's working correctly. Note in my pic the display says C. It's because its asking to be calibrated.

The Kia homelink mirror is ignition hot, body ground, and battery hot for homelink memory. This setup allows for the garage buttons to work only when ignition is switched on, but allows it to retain signal memory. I have both of these mirrors. I couldent pass up a deal like $15 each. I think TascaParts wanted $19 each for homelink ones. Still a screaming deal.

Gonna put one in my 2022 maverick, one in my 07 mustang GT. One in my 88 Daytona shelby. And probably one in my 94 silverado. The new yorker overheads electronics are starting to fail and act wonky. The compass requires a recal every few months as it wierds out, ditto for the temp. I have another Chrysler new yorker temp probe I will plug in and see if it fixes it. If not, I will remove the display, and blank the hole off leaving the console up there, and just install the kia mirror.

So yes I have 4 of these on my shop parts shelf, and a 5th one as a spare. 3 are homelink, and 2 are not. Deal like that, I bought several and saved on shipping lol
