Hello, so my rear end went bad in my truck (10 bolt.) Went to junkyard and found 14 bolt 9.5 6 lug. I brought it home, took the cover off and noticed this bolt. It only goes in and out a turn or 2. I'm not even sure whats even in there. There are markings as well scribed. Out of a 98 with 100,000 miles. The rest of the bolts are tight. Some kind of adjustment? Thank you.

that bolt on the carrier? Set screw that holds that block which in turn holds the axles in.

loosen the bolt, pull that block out and then the axles will slide out. I never have worked on a differential though.. someone may correct me.

Yes that is the bolt and looks like it has to do with that block, but only turns out a little and turns in a little like there's a stop or something.

I found another online pic. It does say its a locker, but nothing explaining what the bolt is.

Maybe look up the install instructions for a detroit, it should show how to adjust that bolt

Yea I'm gonna clean it all up still, I had it draining all night last night so its empty. So if I scored an aftermarket locker, thats good. The rust is only on what the picture shows. Took it from a truck with 100,000 miles.

I guess my question is, the bolt i mentioned only goes so far both ways. I just don't want to strip threads or anything like making it come out if it doesn't. Just a little confused.
